Job description

Overview

The Decision Support Analyst reports directly to the Manager of Corporate Quality Improvement and collaborates with Windsor Regional leadership and external stakeholders. This role provides expertise in data analysis, disseminating information, and conducting evaluations. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining systems for data collection, extracting and merging data from various corporate sources, tracking performance indicators, performing analyses, preparing reports, and interpreting findings. The analyst will consult with the Decision Support Team, Manager, Director, senior leadership, directors, managers, staff, and physicians. Additionally, the analyst will engage in the design and implementation of communication strategies to enhance decision support across the organization and will collaborate with external partners for data validation and submissions. This role supports specific program areas as assigned within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers consultative and analytical expertise by integrating clinical, statistical, and financial data to facilitate evidence-based decision-making and performance monitoring across the organization.
  • Assists with designing and implementing performance / quality improvement measures for assigned clinical programs and collaborates with Clinical Teams regarding information needs.
  • Manages data for required and requested reports (DAD, NACRS, Ministry reporting and Corporate indicators).
  • Performs analyses such as trending, impact analysis, and benchmarking to support monthly utilization reporting and presentations to internal and external committees and agencies.
  • Participates as a member of project planning teams by providing decision support analysis and ensuring data / evaluation components are addressed.
  • Extracts relevant data to identify possible cause-effect relationships, such as outcomes to practice patterns, workload information, and improvement initiatives.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and tracks key indicators.
  • Conducts drill-down analyses as needed.
  • Prepares user-friendly reports and uses feedback for improvements.
  • Collects and links data from sources such as IPORT, CIHI, 3M, and other relevant databases.
  • Provides leadership regarding data requirements and anticipates information needs.
  • Works with Health Records, Finance and Information Services to develop creative ways to access and present information.
  • Collaborates to design, develop, implement, and maintain reliable data sets for reporting and ensures data integrity.
  • Works with end-users to develop customized data formats addressing clinical, financial, and research questions.
  • Supports data collection and validation for Ontario Surgical Quality Improvement Network (ONSQIN).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Skills

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in health sciences, computer science, engineering, business, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a healthcare (hospital) environment (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an analyst (preferred).
  • Self-starter who works well in a team environment.
  • Advanced computer skills : Cerner (DA2, PIE), Business Intelligence (Power BI, Tableau), SPSS, Microsoft Excel / Word / PowerPoint, 3M Report Writer, Simulation Software (Simul8), Python, R, and SQL.
  • Knowledge of medical coding is an asset.
  • Strong report-writing skills for both ad hoc and regular reporting, including data structure and standardization. A short assignment / presentation may be required during the application process to test skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and customer service.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple requests simultaneously.
  • Good understanding of and sensitivity to the health policy environment and its impact on hospital operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to standardize processes for consistency.
  • Understanding of PHIPA is an asset.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning.
  • French language proficiency is an asset.
