Position overview

We have a permanent full-time opportunity for a Systems Engineer, Operational Technologies in the Baggage Operations Department.

Reporting to the Manager, Baggage Systems, the successful candidate will be responsible for determining technical requirements, leading technical decisions, leading projects, managing operational activities, guiding internal and external resources in project tasks, conducting root cause analysis investigations and issue resolution with internal and external partners, managing vendor relationships, identifying opportunities for improvement, and presenting to management team.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Develop and write project proposal and identify and estimate project scopes and manage or execute technical tasks for project activities.
  • Management and responsible for all maintenance and support activities within SCADA / PLC systems coordinating work of internal and external resources to ensure performance and service availability.
  • Draft incident reports, provide technical analysis of incidents and outages and generate dashboards and reports for executive leadership regarding system performance.
  • Monitor trends and report on system availability and reliability, provide technical recommendations on potential issues that may impact serviceability of system and identify areas of opportunity for technology evolution from industry advancements and trend analysis.
  • Coordinate with contractors for tasks assigned and provide progress report and escalate issues to management or escalate any issues with contractors’ contract service to the vendor representative for resolution.
  • Serve as subject matter expert, provide training and mentorship to internal teams or technical guidance, if necessary.

Key qualifications include :

  • At least 2 years Post-secondary in Computer Science, Electrical engineering and computer technology, Automation, Mechatronics or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of recent relevant experience with SCADA systems, supporting, and delivering system updates.
  • Proven experience with virtual platforms, on prem and cloud-based storage systems, experience in project and vendor management and developing junior resources.
  • Previous experience in writing scripts to mine large data sets to identify system issues / improvement.
  • Expert knowledge of technologies underlying SCADA / PLC
  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization, coordination, leadership, coaching, mentoring, negotiating, and time management skills.

This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.

Salary Range : $86,326 to $112,823 per annum, based on a 40-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
