The Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum is just a block away from the southern terminus of the Welland Ship Canal in the Niagara Region.

We are looking for a Research and Conservation Assistant to work on the grounds of the Museum’s Roselawn Centre - an 1860s mansion.

This position is responsible for researching, categorizing, indexing, scanning and photographing archives and building heritage of the mansion.

The student will research the building, which is new to the department, to create an exhibit on the history of the building, including the architect, the two families that owned the building, the use of the facility as the Port Colborne Club and the development of the facility into an arts and cultural hub.

This position will also use the facilities review to prioritize the conservation plan for the structure, as well as the set up of a conservation lab for volunteers to clean, repair and store artifacts and archives pertaining to the building.

The Ideal Candidate :

  • Is enrolled in a history, architecture, photography, museum studies or other applicable program.
  • Is knowledgeable and interested in the region of Niagara and Port Colborne.
  • Has outstanding communication skills and oral speaking skills.
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills and applies guidelines consistently.
  • Is self-motivated and able to work independently and with a group.
  • Has basic knowledge of computer systems including word processing and simple graphic design programs.

Applicants must be :

  • 18-30 years of age
  • Eligible for funding under the Young Canada Works Program

This is a temporary position funded through Young Canada Works with an anticipated start date of May 13, 2024 working through to August 17, 2024 and will be paid at a rate of $17.

00 per hour, working 35 hours per week.
