Job Description

This Food Safety & Regulatory Affairs Coordinator will support the planning, development, maintenance, and execution of our quality, food safety, and regulatory programs.

This position will play a key role in the ongoing improvement of product quality and regulatory compliance through an in-depth cause analysis from data trends.

The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers, and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.

Major Responsibilities :

  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints related to regulatory questions such as : alleged foodborne illness, foreign objects, and allergen complaints in a timely and effective manner.
  • Follow up with suppliers and internal production facilities on non-compliances.
  • Assist in issuing production action requests to the business and complete all subsequent activities of tracking, disposition, and reporting totals to finance for credit follow up.
  • Ensure all databases are maintained and kept current.
  • Support the retail store audit program to ensure compliance with food safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist in ensuring timely turnaround and accurate responses to all governmental agency inquiries regarding regulatory, food safety, and quality.
  • Maintain importing PCP program, documents, and status of SFCR license.
  • Assist production facilities in preparation for third-party audits.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge on Health Canada and CFIA regulations and policies, helping the business prepare for changes in regulations.
  • Responsible for food safety review and approval of third party, private label, and ingredient suppliers as part of the vendor management program.
  • Compile data for monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting when required or requested.
  • Participate in projects and meetings with the goal of improving food safety and quality.
  • Provide essential support to the Food Safety leadership teams.
  • May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a post-secondary education in Food Science, Quality Assurance, Microbiology, or a related science field, plus a minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong customer-service focus.
  • Experience in quality assurance procedures and compliance programs.
  • Familiarity with quality metrics and performance monitoring.
  • Experience in data collection, data reporting and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively communicate requirements and tasks to employees.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with a team.
  • Proactive and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook & Windows.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and within the plant environment as business needs require.
  • Weekend / Evening Coverage as required for rotational recall support.

Work & Sensory Environment :

  • May be required to lift, carry and / or handle heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
  • Required to stand, walk, sit, and reach and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • May be required to travel between Farm Boy stores, Home Office, and / or Central Operations.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends.
  • Exposure to environmental elements such as noise, dirt, dust, vibration, and changing temperatures.
  • Ability to work in a cool environment for prolonged periods (4 to 6 degrees Celsius).
