TheEquity Internship Program (EIP)is a12-month internship program for those that identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) and / or lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, Two-Spirit, and / or other community members (LGBTQ2S+).

The goals of theEIPare to :

  • Encourage BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ people to consider careers within SDPR
  • Recruit a more representative workforce
  • Support the development of leadership skills for BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ people
  • Help address social and economic barriers that exist for BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ people

The interns will work in one of four teams :

  • Inclusion, Diversity and Cultural Safety
  • Strategic Human Resources
  • Children and Family Development Product
  • Prevention and Loss Management Services

The timeline for the hiring process is :

May to June

  • Early May : EIP team reviews applications
  • Mid - May : Selected applicants complete a written assignment
  • Early June : EIP team marks assignments
  • Mid to late June : Selected applicants take part in interviews and their references are contacted

July to August

  • Mid - July : Selected applicants complete a criminal record check
  • Late July : Selected applicants receive letters about their employment

September

  • September 3 - 6, 2024 : EIP team hosts orientation week for interns
  • September 9, 2024 : Interns join their work teams

Job Requirements :

  • Self-identify as BIPOC and / or LGBTQ2S+
  • Currently live in BC
  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (for example, GED)
  • Two years related experience and demonstrated leadership potential

Related experience may be gained through work, community or volunteer opportunities and may include :

  • Managing projects or project components
  • Supporting the design, delivery, and / or evaluation of projects or programs
  • Searching, gathering, and examining information and summarizing the research findings
  • Developing presentations, and / or support materials for meetings or events
  • Organizing and prioritizing your and / or other people's work
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

About this Position :

We have four (4) full-time temporary opportunities from September 2024 until August 2025. Applicants may choose to apply for up to four positions.

Please note that there will be a separate assignment and interview scheduled for each position within the same timeframe.

This position can be based in any Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (SDPR) office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
