Position Summary

The Department of Assessment Services at North Island College invigilates exams for NIC students and external community members.

Exam Invigilators administer Fall and Winter midterm exams, NIC makeup exams, and external (non-NIC) exams.

Exam invigilators are notified of available shifts by phone and / or email, sometimes with short notice. They are required to complete timesheets for payroll purposes.

There is no guarantee of work hours under this temporary appointment. Please be advised that the end date of your appointment is subject to change and could be ended earlier or extended based on the College’s operational or other requirements.

  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills Duties & Responsibilities Typical duties include commencing, monitoring and ending exams at the scheduled time.

Handing out and collecting examination materials and ensuring their secure transmission to responsible faculty. The Exam Invigilator will monitor students and will ensure that examination protocols are implemented.

Information and training will be provided on the appropriate processes for examination invigilation. Required Education & Experience

  • Grade 12 with knowledge of basic office practices;
  • Sound inter-personal and communication skills with the ability to ensure that reasonable expectations of behavior are upheld in an examination situation;

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Monitor start and end times in accordance with examination requirements and protocols;
  • Exercise judgment in situations where people might be stressed;
  • React appropriately if a student is found violating the Academic Conduct Policy;
  • Read, scrutinize and ensure that the correct examination is available and check valid picture ID ensuring that students are given the right examinations at the right time;
  • Fill out required paperwork and incident reports;
  • Scan / email exams or documents back to institutions if required;
  • Troubleshoot technical issues that may arise when administering computer-based exams
