What You’ll Be Doing : Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety, the Disability Management Specialist is responsible for the case management of non-occupational medical disability claims and liaises with external disability claims manager in relation to occupational disability claims across the provincial jurisdictions where Sienna operates. This role is the main point of contact and will manage the process from initiation through closure, including communication with Team Members, Managers, Insurers (including but not limited to Industrial Alliance, WSIB, WCB, WorkSafe and Sutton Special Risk Insurer), Unions and internal Stakeholders (Health & Safety, Payroll, Shared Services, Human Resources and Labour Relations).
The Disability Management Specialist ensures compliance with applicable legislation, policies and contractual agreements including collective agreement obligations while supporting safe and timely return-to-work outcomes.
What you’ll be doing :
Administer and coordinate disability claims (occupational and non-occupational).Maintain effective communications with all stakeholders, as required, to manage disability related leaves and facilitate timely, successful return to work and stay at work programs.Review job demands and identify suitable work while adhering to the essential duties and bona-fide occupational requirements as they are key elements to ensuring successful return to work solutions that are cost efficient and effective.Maintain an accurate database of medically verified Team Member absences, including detailed notes and documentation of communication actions taken on claims.Proactively manage claims and continually seek opportunities to improve processes.Monitor length of disability and sick leave entitlements, gap periods, and eligibility dates.Provide accurate and timely information regarding claims to Team Members, Managers, Insurers, and other internal Stakeholders.Collaborate with Team Members, Managers, Insurers, and internal Stakeholders to coordinate return to work provisions including modified work schedules, workplace accommodation, and transitional work opportunities.Resolve barriers to successful and sustainable accommodation and return to work plans.Maintain confidentiality, accuracy and integrity in the collection, processing, and maintenance of claims information in accordance with Sienna policies.Liaise with third-party disability claims manager and applicable benefit providers in the effective provisioning of services; discuss claims and / or accommodation issues and opportunities.Liaise with applicable benefit providers in the effective provisioning of services; discuss claims and / or accommodation issues and opportunities.Facilitate the completion and submission of timely applications for short-term and long-term disability benefits.Participate in the development of communication materials and related program initiatives to educate Team Members.Advise Team Members, Managers, and Human Resources on leave of absence policies, guidelines and legislation including impact to company benefits.Collaborate on the development and facilitation of processes that ensure compliance with legislation and policies.Provide guidance and training to supervisory Team Members regarding their role in facilitating effective claims management.Who you are :
College or University degree in a health- related fieldDisability Management Specialist (CDMP), Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC), would be considered an asset.Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience managing disability or sick leave programs.Knowledge and understanding of applicable human rights legislation, its practices, and procedures (including the duty to accommodate), applicable occupational health and safety legislation, applicable workers’ compensation legislation and applicable employment standards legislation.Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills.Ability to support the organization’s values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity, and respectful workplaces.Proven ability to exercise judgement, tact, and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling information of a confidential and / or sensitive nature. High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills to solution targeted, proactive plans.Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, demonstrating the highest of professional standards. Strong relationship building skills to partner effectively with all stakeholders.Ability to work as both a team player and independently, with minimal supervision.Proven time management skills to prioritize and complete assignments within demanding work schedules; able to work additional hours as required.Ability to foster an organizational culture that emphasizes innovation, continuous learning, collaboration, transparency, accountability and trust while promoting a strong code of ethics and integrity to support the organization service excellence.Experience working with Microsoft Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)What you need to know :
