About Next Level Advanced Manufacturing

Next Level Advanced Manufacturing is a Calgary-based manufacturing startup built by people who like solving hard problems on the shop floor. The business combines precision CNC machining with metal additive manufacturing, inspection, and engineering support to deliver high-mix, low-volume parts that demand careful thinking and hands-on experience. Today, the team supports customers across energy and industrial sectors, while steadily expanding into aerospace, space, and defence as new certifications and capabilities come online. Investments in multi-axis equipment, advanced materials, and tight quality systems mean employees work on parts that are rarely routine and often first-of-their-kind.

This is a hands-on, high-performing environment where machinists, engineers, and problem-solvers collaborate closely, influence process planning, and shape how work gets done. With a small, highly skilled team, individuals take ownership early, gain exposure across additive and subtractive manufacturing, and grow alongside a business moving toward product development and new markets.

About the Opportunity

Next Level Advanced Manufacturing is looking for a full-time Day-Shift Senior Mill / Turn Machinist, Setter / Programmer based in Calgary, AB.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, you will be responsible for setting up, proving out, and machining complex mill / turn work, with accountability for process planning, first-article quality, and producing parts to print in a high-mix, low-volume environment.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for translating drawings into reliable machining processes, setting up advanced equipment, and supporting both conventional CNC and hybrid additive-manufacturing work.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Setting up tooling, workholding, and fixturing on a DMG MORI NTX 7-axis mill / turn
  • Proving out programs and supporting process planning for complex, one-off and short-run parts
  • Interpreting drawings and ensuring parts are machined to print and tolerance
  • Performing first-article inspection and in-process verification
  • Machining a wide range of materials, including tight-tolerance and difficult-to-hold components
  • Supporting hybrid additive-manufacturing jobs through post-print finish machining
  • Working within evolving quality systems aligned with ISO 9001 and AS9100 requirements as they are implemented
  • Collaborating closely with engineering and programming to refine machining methods

    About You

To qualify, you will have 5+ years of experience in a CNC machining environment focused on mill / turn work, with hands-on responsibility for setup, prove-out, and machining of complex parts. Strong fundamentals in G-code and M-code, a working understanding of manual machining principles, and the ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings with a solid grasp of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards will be essential.

Formal trade certification is not required. A Journeyperson Machinist ticket or Interprovincial Red Seal will be considered an asset, but equivalent hands-on experience in technically demanding or regulated machining environments is equally valued.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued :

  • Experience setting up and proving out complex mill / turn work
  • Strong process-planning skills, including workholding and operation sequencing
  • Experience working in high-mix, low-volume or prototyping-style environments
  • Confidence machining tight-tolerance parts with challenging geometries
  • Experience performing first-article and in-process inspection
  • Exposure to multi-axis CNC equipment in non-production settings
  • Comfort machining a wide variety of materials
  • Experience machining materials such as Inconel, titanium, stainless steels, and low-alloy steels
  • Familiarity with CAM and engineering software such as Hexagon ESPRIT, SolidWorks, HighQA, Fusion 360, or Inventor CAM
  • Interest in cross-training into additive manufacturing and hybrid workflows
  • Ability to work from detailed drawings and technical specifications
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems (asset)
  • Experience working in regulated or documentation-driven shops (asset)
  • As our ideal candidate, you bring sound judgement, patience, and a steady approach to problem-solving on the shop floor. You take ownership of your work, communicate clearly with engineers and programmers, and are comfortable contributing ideas in an environment where processes are still being built.

This is a senior, hands-on machining opportunity for someone who values variety, responsibility, and long-term stability while helping Next Level Advanced Manufacturing move into new materials, certifications, and regulated markets. Whether you are drawn to work that changes from job to job, involving complex parts, new materials, and careful planning, or you are a seasoned machinist who has put in the long hours and off-shifts and is now looking for a day-shift position where your experience and decision-making are genuinely trusted, this role offers a balance of challenge, ownership, and stability.

    About the Benefits

In return for your skills and experience, you will receive a competitive wage of $40.00–$50.00 per hour, depending on experience. Additional benefits include :

  • Group health benefits
  • A full-time day shift schedule that supports a consistent work–life balance
  • Opportunity for overtime when required
  • Vacation starting at three weeks
  • Potential for additional time off around year-end, depending on workload and operational needs
  • Relocation assistance available for the right candidate
  • On-the-job learning and cross-training across CNC and additive manufacturing
  • Hands-on involvement in a growing manufacturing business expanding into new materials, certifications, and regulated markets
  • Weekly team lunches and regular team social activities
  • Stability, technical variety, and the chance to grow alongside a small, highly skilled team as Next Level Advanced Manufacturing continues to build its capabilities and expand into new markets
