Reports to : Vice President, Commercial Capabilities and Marketing

Purpose :

The Director, Commercial Capabilities is part of the Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Commercial Team. They play an important role in leading the team’s growth strategy that strengthens the business, enables strategic innovation and delivers profit to sustain the Gay Lea Foods Co-operative model.

The Director, Commercial Capabilities will lead the Insights and Go to Market functions through a combination of providing strong leadership, showcasing the ability to turn meaningful insights into action and leading the team to achieve executional excellence.

The role will elevate Gay Lea’s category stewardship, thought leadership, and is critical for Gay Lea to continue to grow its leading position in focus categories and channels to achieve corporate objectives and goals.

Key Responsibilities :

Commercial Capabilities Team Leadership : Lead the Commercial Capabilities team to be the center of excellence for Market Insights and Go To Market execution for Gay Lea Foods.

Manage, develop and mentor the team to partner across the organization to drive growth and profit.

  • Strategic Planning & Execution : Develop, implement and support the commercial team with an annual insights led Go To Market strategy and selling materials to execute against the overall corporate strategy, focused on market penetration, growth, competitive positioning and profitability.
  • Market Analysis & Intelligence : Evaluate current market trends, competitor strategies, and customer preferences to identify untapped opportunities and potential threats to develop strategies that ensure long-term competitiveness and market growth.

Key contributor to the organization’s long-term strategic planning.

  • Integrated Business Planning : Leads the portfolio management review, a critical pillar of the organization’s Integrated Business Planning process.
  • External Relationship Management : Oversee the development of strategic partnerships and relationships with external market research organizations to enhance business capabilities.

Develop category partnerships with key accounts to uncover opportunities.

Internal Stakeholder Engagement : Collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization to gain alignment with strategic commercial initiatives.

Understand diverse perspectives, negotiate priorities and build consensus among departments to achieve successful execution.

Qualifications :

  • University Degree mandatory
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, proven track record of coaching and developing teams.
  • Strong strategy and analytical skills coupled with experience in at least two of the following functions : Sales Account Management, Commercialization, Go To Market, Marketing or Category Management.
  • Proven results leading the creation of strategy and influencing individuals to execute.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Strong project management, creative problem-solving, conceptual thinking, identifying future trends and process improvement.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to inspire and influence others through storytelling and executive presence.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills as well as working knowledge of syndicated data systems.
  • Self-motivated with high energy and the desire to coach others.
  • Experience working at CPG companies is preferred.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization structure is an asset.
  • Valid G driving licence required.
