We are a rapidly expanding mid-sized manufacturer specializing in a diverse range of hydronic heating and cooling equipment.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer with a robust background in lean manufacturing.

In this role, reporting directly to the Director of Manufacturing, the Process Engineer will be responsible for the development, implementation, and optimization of production processes.

This position offers a broad scope for innovation and impact, providing the opportunity to define processes, establish material flow or pull systems, and spearhead continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate current processes, pinpoint bottlenecks, and enact adjustments to optimize workflow.
  • Assess resource requirements, ergonomic solutions, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and other cross-functional teams to provide insights for the successful deployment of new products with manufacturability in mind.
  • Conduct thorough analysis and refinement of production processes to enhance safety, quality, yield, and capacity in a cost-effective manner.
  • Engage with production personnel to identify opportunities for design modifications in existing products to improve manufacturability and reduce costs.
  • Lead quality function deployment efforts to institutionalize Poka yokes in high-risk processes, thereby mitigating the risk of poor quality (utilizing PFMEA, Control Plans, etc.).
  • Apply Lean methodologies to enhance process layouts, material flow, and reduce the 8 types of waste.
  • Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with product specifications and standards, with a focus on achieving quality right from the outset.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing instructions, method sheets, standard work, and routings for related processes.
  • Utilize technical expertise to innovate, design, and develop processes, tooling, assembly fixtures, and procedures.
  • Implement Lean manufacturing principles including waste reduction, material flow optimization, 5S initiatives, and leading continuous improvement projects.
  • Oversee the implementation of engineering changes to ensure seamless transitions between revisions.
  • Handle non-conforming materials and drive preventive action initiatives both internally and with suppliers.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering; or equivalent or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
  • Formal LEAN Manufacturing training or certification is an asset.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Lean manufacturing methodologies.
  • Strong critical thinking abilities, coupled with diplomacy and tact.
  • Exceptional project management skills with a proven ability to drive change.
  • Persuasive, motivational, and persistent in achieving objectives.
  • Proficiency in process engineering, encompassing process development, troubleshooting, data analysis, constraint analysis, flow optimization, and root cause analysis.
  • Effective collaboration with diverse teams, including direct labor, to comprehend challenges and devise structured solutions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Bill of Materials (BOMs), manufacturability, process design, process validation, assembly methods, design reviews, and cost reduction strategies.
  • Proficiency in breaking down complex issues into manageable components.
  • Ability to identify critical process parameters and implement appropriate controls to mitigate risks.
  • Competence in interpreting basic mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Proficient utilization of common workplace tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, etc.
