What You’ll Do
- Planning and undertaking baseline studies of freshwater aquatic, terrestrial, and marine environments
- Conducting field surveys and collecting field data on fish, aquatic habitat, vegetation, wildlife, and terrestrial habitat following standard protocols and best practices
- Collecting water, sediment, benthic invertebrate, and other types of environmental or biological samples according to established sampling plans and methodologies
- Mapping and analyzing data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Assisting in the environmental aspects of major planning, feasibility, or design and construction projects in the areas of water, community, and energy infrastructure, watershed management, climate change adaptation, and ecological restoration
- Assisting with or leading habitat restoration and environmental stewardship initiatives and projects in partnership with local governments, non-governmental organizations, and First Nation clients
- Assisting in the preparation of habitat creation, mitigation, and offsetting plans, as well as associated monitoring programs and plans
- Assisting in the preparation of construction-phase environmental management plans and environmental compliance monitoring programs for construction projects
- Conducting environmental monitoring of construction projects
- Preparing technical reports, memos, and other project deliverables
- Assisting with preparing proposals, including the development of work programs, budgets, and schedules.
- You will be given the opportunity to develop project management skills and supervise junior staff as the department continues to grow.
What You’ll Bring

- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, or a related field
- A relevant Master’s degree, specialization in aquatic, fisheries, or wildlife biology, and experience leading regulatory and permitting processes would be assets
- 3-5 years of post-graduation work experience, preferably in consulting
- Registered or eligible for registration as an R.P.Bio. with the College of Applied Biology in B.C. (other professional designations, e.
g., P.Ag., EP, may be considered)
- Experience working in aquatic and / or terrestrial ecosystems of BC and Western Canada
- Solid understanding of current federal and provincial regulatory processes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and be able to work with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment
- A desire to learn new skills and an eagerness to grow within your role
- An understanding of the UN Declaration on the Rights for Indigenous Peoples and how that relates to our responsibilities to advance reconciliation
- A valid driver’s license (in good standing) is mandatory
- Must be physically able to conduct field visits commensurate with project work. This may include handling and operation of equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven / varying ground terrain.
