Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Intermediate Ecologist to join our growing team in Calgary, Alberta.

Working alongside a team of professionals with varied backgrounds and skills, the ideal candidate is comfortable in fast paced environments.

We are seeking a candidate who has a working knowledge of relevant Alberta and Federal regulations. The position will involve working to provide support on environmental investigations, including baseline studies, environmental impact assessments, environmental monitoring plans, permitting, and other related scopes of work.

The successful candidate will work with an experienced team of scientists and technical specialist on environmental assessments, permits and provide environmental support on multi-disciplinary projects in Alberta and across Western Canada.

Job responsibilities include but aren’t limited to the following :

  • Supporting the preparation of regulatory applications, applicable to provincial and federal legislation.
  • Supporting and authoring regulatory and technical documents that support regulatory applications and permits.
  • Supporting planning and coordinating logistics of environmental field studies.
  • Working with a large multi-disciplinary team to execute projects and meet client expectations.
  • Assisting Project Managers with tasks such as monthly project and budget update summaries, preparation of meeting minutes, scheduling and coordinating field programs.
  • Supporting preparation of proposals and workplans.
  • Completing field programs such as vegetation, wetlands, wildlife, fisheries and soils. Technical discipline specialty experience would be considered an asset.
  • Adhering to and enforcing corporate Safety, Health and Environment protocols and AECOM’s quality control program.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences or Geological Sciences, and is a registered professional (or qualified to become a registered professional) in Alberta.
  • 4+ years of experience of demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education as an environmental consultant, industry representative, or other.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years experience in environmental consulting
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable with liaising with clients, colleagues and sub-contractors alike
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Well organized, and strong quality and time management
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software applications
  • Highly motivated and willingness to learn new tasks
  • Experience in a technical discipline such as vegetation, wetlands, wildlife, fisheries or soils would be considered an asset
