Research Assistant (PRISM Lab)
Description
We are looking for a Research Assistant to join the PRISM (Pediatric Rehabilitation Intelligent Systems Multidisciplinary) Lab at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
The PRISM Lab is a dynamic multidisciplinary team focused on maximizing possibilities for children and youth with disabilities and their families.
We work closely with children, families, and clinicians to create and evaluate innovative technological solutions that provide children with severe disabilities new opportunities to interact with the world around them.
This role will support brain-computer interface (BCI) research at Holland Bloorview, the Clinical BCI program, and other access technology-related projects on an as-needed basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist research team with administrative tasks such as report preparation
- Prepare electronic ethics submissions (pre and post-approval)
- Recruit participants through approved means
- Conduct and document consent sessions with participants
- Conduct and document data collection sessions with participants following established research protocols
- Manage logistics for data collection sessions (scheduling, room booking, session preparation)
- Prepare knowledge translation materials (presentations, video tutorials, user manuals)
- Prepare and test equipment for Clinical BCI session
- Provide technical support for Clinical BCI sessions
- Participate in project team meetings
- Prepare electronic surveys
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in a health-related field or comparable post-secondary training and experience
- Experience with quantitative and qualitative data collection and management
- Able to work comfortably with different technologies
- Knowledge of access technologies
- Experience with children and / or non-verbal individuals with disabilities
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent organization, time management, and priority setting skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid problem-solving skills with a desire to learn
- Demonstrated understanding of a client- and family-centred approach to research
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Demonstrates skill in understanding cultural differences
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
