Position Summary
The Recovery Coach supports clients in developing the skills, routines, and plans required for sustainable recovery. Working alongside clinicians, addiction counsellors, and the broader care team, the RC focuses on behavioural change, recovery planning, and real-world application of treatment learning.
The role emphasizes doing, practicing, and integrating —not diagnosing or delivering psychotherapy.
Core Responsibilities
1. Recovery Planning & Transitions (Primary Ownership)
- Co-develop and maintain individualized Recovery Plans with clients
- Support goal-setting aligned with values, strengths, and readiness
- Lead transition-in and transition-out processes (Weeks 1 & 7 emphasis)
- Coordinate post-discharge supports (housing, employment, community services, outpatient care)
2. Skills Coaching & Behavioural Activation
Facilitate practical, skills-based groups (e.g., emotional regulation, routine-building, communication, relapse prevention tools)Reinforce skills taught in clinical and psychoeducational programmingSupport clients to practice skills in daily life and reflect on outcomesNormalize setbacks as learning opportunities, not failures3. Measurement-Based Care (Shared Responsibility)
Support administration and follow-up of MBC tools at designated time pointsReview progress with clients in accessible, non-clinical languageUse data to support motivation, insight, and recovery planning (not diagnosis)4. Relational Support & Accountability
Conduct structured 1 : 1 check-ins focused on progress, barriers, and next stepsModel healthy boundaries, consistency, and recovery-oriented languageProvide encouragement without rescuing or over-functioning5. Team Collaboration & Documentation
Document recovery planning, progress, and transitions in accordance with standardsCommunicate effectively with clinicians, ACs, nurses, and CSWsParticipate in care team meetings and handovers as requiredRequired Qualifications
Diploma or degree in a human services field or equivalent experienceTraining or experience in addiction recovery, mental health, or behaviour changeStrong group facilitation and interpersonal skillsAbility to work within structured systems and documentation standards(Lived experience may be an asset but is not a requirement.)Key Competencies
