CCESSIBILITY & ACADEMIC SUPPORTS, STUDENTS AND ACADEMIC STRATEGY
NorQuesters are difference makers, and we’re searching for someone who can apply learning theory, universal design principles, and foundational knowledge from the Alberta K-12 curriculum to support learner success. Working one-on-one with foundational and post-secondary learners, including those with experience of disability and those who have English as an additional language, Learning Support Specialists support the academic progress of learners by compassionately meeting them where they are at and collaborating with Instructional Faculty and the broader student services team to ensure wrap-around academic support.
The Learning Support Specialist (English and Writing) position provides in-person and online learning support to students in a variety of NorQuest courses and programs, inclusive of high school English, language learning programs (EAL and LINC), as well as post-secondary courses in the humanities and social sciences, such as Business Communications, and first-year university courses such as Technical Writing and Introduction to Composition. Learning Support Specialists work with students via multiple delivery channels, including drop-in tutoring and academic coaching, coaching appointments through a Habits for Success program, and coaching appointments for students referred by Accessibility (Disability) Services. You will have the opportunity to learn new curriculum, experiment with varied approaches to supporting learners, as well as the opportunity to innovate, as we transform our services to meet the college’s strategic goals and work towards our commitment to Indigenization, decolonization and becoming an anti-racist organization.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Provide tutoring and academic coaching support to students
Liaise with teaching faculty, Learner Centre staff, Accessibility Services, Indigenous Student Services, and other college areas to provide wrap-around academic support
Implement projects and initiatives that support students’ academic success
Contribute to on-going quality improvement in educational practice and service excellence
Contribute to operational excellence

SALARY :
AUPE Specialist III | $61,635 - $80,033 reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time permanent position with immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs. For more information regarding the AUPE Collective Agreement, please check out this link.
This student-facing role requires availability on campus at least four days per week, with the option to work remotely one day per week. We strive for balance between a flexible work environment, connectedness to the campus community, and ensuring NorQuesters are set up to succeed in their roles and responsibilities.
