Duties
Conducts scientific analysis and investigations for diagnostic and testing purposes.
Contributes to the development and validation of new analytical methods and laboratory practices.
Collects, analyses and interprets data for, and authorizes results to CFIA employees, other government organizations and private sector organizations.
Produces scientific data, reports and information on laboratory methods and practices and aids in the preparation and / or delivery of results in the form of presentations, reports, and / or papers to colleagues, management and / or clients.
Provides technical and procedural guidance, training and troubleshooting to laboratory staff on testing methods and procedures.
Contributes to project teams, working groups or committees related to their subject matter expertise within CFIA to advance the work of the unit.

Intent of the process
The intent is to have an inventory of candidates to draw from when vacancies arise for current and future needs at the CFIA NCFAD Laboratory.
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis as long as the poster is active.
Employees must be present in the laboratory; remote work is not a possibility.
As we anticipate a large number of applications, we may be applying volume management strategies throughout the selection process such as, but not limited to, top-down approach, cut-off scores and / or random selection.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
EEd1 : A bachelor's degree in a natural, physical or applied science from a recognized post-secondary institution, with an acceptable specialization in a scientific field relevant to the duties of the position.
Applicants submitting education credentials from a non-Canadian institution are responsible for obtaining certification that these credentials are the equivalent of the Canadian education level required for the position.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
EE1 : Experience in planning, organizing, designing and delivery of scientific experiments.
EE2 : Experience in the analysis or interpretation of experimental data.
EE3 : Experience performing or examining methodologies in the following biological disciplines : microbiology or virology or immunology or molecular biology.
EE4 : Experience in routine laboratory equipment maintenance.

EK1 : Knowledge of current principles, techniques and procedures of virology.
EK2 : Knowledge of current principles, techniques and procedures of immunology.
EK3 : Knowledge of current principles, techniques and procedures of molecular biology.

ASSET EDUCATION
AEd1 : Graduation with a MSc or PhD from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in virology, molecular biology or immunology.
ASSET EXPERIENCE
AEx1 : Experience working in biosafety containment CL3.
AEx2 : Experience conducting and coordinating diagnostic activities.
AEx3 : Experience in genome analysis (genome assembly and annotation, multiple sequence alignments and phylogenetic analysis).
AEx4 : Experience in project management.
AEx5 : Experience leading a team in a laboratory.
AEx6 : Experience providing creative solutions in a laboratory setting.
AEx7 : Experience working on projects with international organizations WAOH (OIE), FAO, GAC etc.

Conditions of employment
Secret security clearance - Applicants who have not lived in Canada for the past five (or ten, depending on security level) years may be required to submit a police certificate from each country in which they have lived for six months or more during this period, as well as other documentation required for the security screening process.

Willing and able to be immunized as indicated by job risk, location, overseas travel and other identified risks.
Willingness to abide by strict biosecurity protocols which may require showering several times a day or abiding by certain restrictions on contact with livestock outside of the workplace.
Security clearance under the Human Pathogens and Toxins Act (HPTA) may be required for certain laboratory positions.
