If so, we want you on our Parks Services team!

We are currently recruiting for 5 Parks Operations Students. As the successful candidates, you will assist Parks Services staff in all aspects of park operational and facility maintenance duties.

You must have the ability to work in a team environment as well as periodically with minimal supervision while being self-motivated.

You will be in frequent contact with the public and as such excellent communication skills are important.

Your will :

  • Conduct routine park operation and facility maintenance duties.
  • Conduct daily park, trail, and facility maintenance requiring specific skills in :
  • Arboriculture related park operations activities.
  • Horticulture related park operations activities.
  • Irrigation system operation and maintenance.
  • Construction of relevant park landscape structures.
  • Assist in implementation of small scale park capital development projects.
  • Contribute to ensuring park safety by obtaining a good working knowledge of RDCO Parks Bylaws and jointly with functional and direct supervisors, advise the public of bylaw and safety requirements when appropriate.
  • Promote public and staff safety in compliance with the Regional District Regulatory Bylaws as well as the RDCO Occupational Health and Safety Policy.
  • Assist and participate in the implementation of the Regional Park Risk Management program.
  • Positively and diplomatically respond to public inquiries and concerns related to RDCO Parks Services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Employment as a Parks Operations Summer Student will require vigorous work in all kinds of weather and requires that you possess a valid BC Driver's Licence with record of safe driving.

You will be currently enrolled and returning to post-secondary education in programs related to sustainable resources, arboriculture, horticulture, fish, wildlife and recreation, natural resources, biology, or environmental sciences in the Fall of 2024.

The positions will commence May 7, 2024, and conclude August 16, 2024 and the hours of work will be 6 : 30 am to 3 : 00 pm.

Work shifts will either be Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday. We offer a wage of $20.80 per hour plus 4% in lieu.
