Overview
Reporting to the Program Manager, the SubstituteTeacher will provide a caring and supportive education environment for childrenand youth attending the transitional Shawenim Abinoojii Education ResourceCentre in Ste. Anne. The incumbent will design, develop, deliver, and monitor developmentally appropriate learning experiences in line with the Manitoba Provincial curriculum outcomes. Children and youth will have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. The Teacher will provide individual, small groups and whole class lessons and programming with the goalsof supporting students to transition to Ste. Anne Elementary or Ste. Anne Collegiate at their own pace.
Key Responsibilities
Create and provide developmentally appropriate education programming; plan and implement curriculum and education for children and youth in collaboration with House parents, schools and other supportsProvide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the development levels and learning styles of children and youthPlan and prepare learning settings; supervise children and youth in the learning environment; provide supportiveenvironment in which children and youth can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors.Provide activities that encourage healthy growth and cultural developmentProvide a supportive and caring environment, exercise control and maintain classroom disciplineInteract with parents and school groups; maintain open and cooperative communication with SAI staff teams and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting relationshipsWrite and compile individual assessments of individual development, complete daily inventories, attendance, and related reportsIntegrate knowledge of Traditional and Western child development theory and practicePerform miscellaneous job‑related duties asassignedQualifications
Post Secondary degree in Bachelor of Education degree from a recognized institution.Must hold a valid Provincial Teaching Certificate.Experience working with Early Years children in a community settingValid class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicleMust obtain and maintain current adult, child & infant CPR and First Aid Certification within 6 weeks of date of hireMust provide clear Child Abuse, Adult Abuse Registry, Criminal Record check and priorKnowledge of applicable safety proceduresExperience working or volunteering with First Nations children and YouthAbility to evaluate, design andimplement holistic curriculum, testing and teaching methodologiesKnowledge of the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector and legislation an asset but not mandatoryDemonstrate knowledge and / orunderstanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nation’s culture and traditional philosophiesStrong Interpersonal and Communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse communityWE THANK ALL WHO APPLY HOWEVER ONLY THOSE CANDIDATES SELECTED FOR AN INTERVIEW WILL BE CONTACTED.
