The Opportunity :
WSP - The Legal Counsel is a strategic partner providing legal support for WSP Canada's projects within the Infrastructure and Transportation business sectors across the country.
Responsible for commercial legal matters, this position provides legal support, guidance, and advice on complex issues arising in their area of expertise.
The position involves frequent contact with clients as well as internal and external stakeholders, management, as well as WSP affiliates and its parent company.
This individual is to provide practical, high quality and timely legal advice while appropriately balancing risk management and commercial opportunities.
A strong understanding of project delivery models, contract lifecycle, project roles and responsibilities and WSP's industry is required .

What you can expect to do here :
- Act as a legal point of contact for the aforementioned business sectors;
- Provide legal support to the Business Lines on contract negotiation, drafting, and interpretation;
- Review numerous public and private RFPs and assist the Business Lines in preparing their bids;
- Evaluate and present the risk profile of business opportunities to the various internal decision committees;
- Ensure compliance of all commercial pursuits and decisions with WSP's internal authorization matrix;
- Provide timely legal advice to project teams throughout the project lifecycle;
- Collaborate with the internal legal claims team to assess and provide advice on contractual disputes or claims;
- Assist in ensuring compliance of projects in accordance with with federal and provincial laws and regulations;
- You will always ensure health and safety policies are followed at all sites and take WSP's Life Saving rules to heart.
What you'll bring to WSP :
- Member in good standing of a Canadian bar association;
- Between 1 and 5 years experience;
- Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements;
- A solid understanding of business fundamentals and risk management;
- Strong communication skills required to deconstruct and present complex legal concepts;
- Effective analytical skills to lead dispute resolution efforts;
- High level of organizational skills with strong analytical ability and attention to detail;
- Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects concurrently;
- Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders as part of a multidisciplinary team;
- Ability to present legal issues and options to senior management;
- Experience in construction and infrastructure projects is an asset.
