About the Job :
The medical physicist is responsible for providing clinical physics support to Diagnostic Imaging Services at 2 acute care hospitals and 4 community hospitals on PEI.
The medical physicist leads the DI quality control and radiation safety programs and is the Radiation Safety Officer for nuclear medicine.
Job Duties :
- Ensuring that all activities involving radiation emitting devices are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures.
- Performing shielding design calculations for new rooms and evaluating existing lead shielding thickness
- On-going evaluation of imaging equipment performance, performing acceptance testing
- Participating in the selection, installation, and evaluation of new equipment
- Providing radiation dose calculations and risk evaluation for patients and staff
- Investigating and performing follow up of radiation safety related incidents.
- Providing education and training in radiation safety to staff and physicians.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Master’s degree in Medical Physics or Health & Radiation Physics or equivalent education and experience.
- Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine Mammography Certification is required.
- Demonstrated ability to perform QC testing for x-ray, CT, ultrasound, BMD and MRI.
- Knowledge and understanding of hospital radiation safety programs including Nuclear Medicine.
- Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience is required.
- A good previous work and attendance record.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others
- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
