Earth Sciences and Engineering specializes in site planning, spatial information and digital terrain modeling, surface and subsurface investigations, rock mechanics, underground structures, geotechnical laboratory services, flood forecasting and water resource management through our geotechnical, hydrotechnical, and civil site development expertise.
Looking to take the next step in your career with a top-tier engineering firm? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Junior Geological Engineer to join our Earth Sciences and Engineering group (ESE) in our Halifax NS office.
Hatch’s ESE Geotechnical Group undertakes investigations, studies, and design as part of our geotechnical services for all types of mining, energy, and infrastructure projects.
The geotechnical group is a global practice providing geotechnical and geological expertise to Hatch's business units. Our capability spans through the whole project lifecycle, comprising scoping, conceptual design, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering, construction, and project management.
As the successful candidate, you will :
Be given opportunities to work on interesting and complex geotechnical projects, and collaborate with diverse teams locally, nationally, and globally.

Participate in professional development programs and networking opportunities to develop your skills
Support field assignments including geotechnical site investigations, supervision of borehole drilling, monitoring well installation, and construction support
Support the preparation of site characterization and geotechnical investigation reports.
Complete 2D and 3D computational modeling
Assist engineers with geotechnical design and calculations
Contribute to technical memos and geotechnical reports
Participate in the development of project execution plans and proposals
You bring to the role :
A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering (geotechnical focus), Geological Engineering, or Engineering Geology from an accredited university
0-2 years’ relevant post graduate geotechnical / geological experience
Registered or eligible to register with APENS or APGNS
Able to work independently in field situations
Demonstrated competency in executing field investigations
Willingness to undertake term assignments out of office
A strong focus on both safety and quality
Sound understanding of geotechnical and geological theory and practical applications
Experience using geotechnical software packages, e.g., GeoStudio, Rocscience, Plaxis, OpenGround, Leapfrog, etc.
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Good planning and organizational skills
Ability to function with minimal supervision
Must be eligible for controlled goods program and NATO secret background checks
