POSITION : GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) SPECIALIST

LOCATION : Fort St. John, BC or remote work options available

ROY NORTHERN LAND AND ENVIRONMENTAL is an expanding progressive surface land and environmental consulting firm with an interest in oil and gas, forestry, mining, energy, and agricultural industries, as well as municipal authorities throughout Alberta, British Columbia, and Canada’s north.

We employ a team of over 80 staff members located in our Fairview, Grande Prairie, Fort St. John, and Terrace offices, and we offer interdisciplinary expertise to develop environmental solutions for our clients throughout western Canada.

For over 40 years, we have directly assisted clients in regulatory application and have provided consulting expertise on environmental legislation, regulations, and guideline compliance related to project planning, development, and reclamation.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

• College Diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or a related field
• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Strong general technical skills (experience with environmental and / or archaeology services a plus)
• Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

• Knowledge and experience with ESRI products (ArcGIS 10.8, ArcGIS Pro)
• Experience with ArcGIS Online and related data collection tools (Web AppBuilder, Survey123, FieldMaps, handheld GPS, Trimble)
• Experience developing geoprocessing tools and automating workflows using Python or ArcGIS ModelBuilder
• Experience working with LiDAR data / digital elevation models and their related applications
• Experience producing cartographic products and understand cartographic principles
• Experience developing GIS solutions to meet internal / external business needs
• Familiarity with BC Government spatial data and systems
• Strong project management skills, able to breakdown problems into manageable size, ability to manage scope, understands project context, can connect tasks
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to manage time and prioritize effectively; strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
• Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
• Displays independence in completing elements of work tasks
• Makes decisions of moderate complexity or consequence
• Excellent attention to detail, well organized, and reliable
• Delegates effectively, understands the assignment, strong communication to team, sets clear expectations, checks-in, identifies parameters / constraints to achieve tasks
• Conveys ownership attitude, aware of fiscal responsibility, proactively works within budget (cost or time), willing to shoulder more responsibility
• Strong writing skills, understands what is important to Roy Northern and its clients, identifies key messages
• Practices good judgement, awareness and understanding of risk and liabilities, knows their limits
• Good problem solver, anticipates problems and solves them, proactive approach
• Client focused (includes internal clients)
• Business focused, approaches problems from a business perspective
• Displays leadership qualities, sets a good example, role model for junior staff
• Environmental / archaeology background a plus

COMPENSATION

• Full Time or Hourly Position
• Competitive Salary ($28-$35 per hour wage depending on experience)
