Job Title : Medical Laboratory Technician

Location : Hammond, IN

Job Description :

As a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), you will play a crucial role in the healthcare industry by performing various laboratory tests to help diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases.

You will work closely with physicians, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely test results.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to :

Key Responsibilities :

1. Sample Collection and Processing :

  • Collecting specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue samples from patients.
  • Properly labeling specimens and ensuring accurate identification.
  • Preparing specimens for analysis by centrifugation, separation, or other methods as required.

2. Laboratory Testing :

  • Performing a wide range of laboratory tests including hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, immunology, and molecular diagnostics.
  • Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols to ensure accurate and reliable test results.

3. Data Analysis and Reporting :

  • Analyzing test results and recording findings accurately.
  • Reporting abnormal findings to healthcare providers in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining detailed records of tests performed and results obtained.

4. Quality Control and Assurance :

  • Participating in quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Monitoring equipment performance and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
  • Following established protocols for the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

5. Collaboration and Communication :

  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to interpret test results and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Communicating effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and patients.
  • Providing support and guidance to other laboratory staff as needed.

Requirements :

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from a recognized accrediting agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT).
  • Previous experience working in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient computer skills for data entry and analysis.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety regulations and protocols at all times.
