Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Digital, the Web and UI Specialist is responsible for building, updating and maintaining Georgian College’s websites and public-facing digital platforms. This role leads front-end development and supports the implementation of user interface designs to deliver accessible, high-performing and engaging digital experiences, and provides training, troubleshooting and support to staff and faculty using the content management system. Specific duties include, but are not limited to :
- Responsible for building, updating and maintaining the Georgian College and associated websites while also supporting the development, maintenance and user experience of public-facing digital tools (e.g., virtual tours and appointment-booking platforms, recruitment lead forms). Includes development of templates, navigation, content, forms, on-page elements and landing pages
- Leads hands on development and troubleshooting of web pages and code. Includes configuring and customizing CMS (Content Management System), plug-ins, working with APIs and integrating with other tools
- Ensures that the website is current, functional, secure and high performing. Leads and conducts CMS maintenance and upgrades, working collaboratively with IT.
- Ensures the site complies with all standards including AODA, search engine optimization, responsive design, performance and usability.
- Leads and manages projects, from planning and development through testing, launch and post-implementation optimization.
- Develops and assists in design of front-end UI / UX using JavaScript, CSS, HTML, PHP, aligned with brand standards and user experience best practices.

- Supports the Web Strategist in translating user experience and interface designs into functional, responsive and accessible front-end solutions.
- Builds and implements page layouts, interface components and interaction patterns based on approved wireframes, prototypes and design specifications.
- Defines and maintains reusable user interface (UI) components and front-end patterns to ensure consistency across websites and digital platforms.
- Applies user-centred design principles, accessibility standards (AODA / WCAG) and responsive design best practices to all interface solutions.
- Conducts Testing / debugging in multiple browsers & screen sizes to ensure a consistent, accessible user experience.
- Utilize and leverage tools and platforms to gain insights and inform recommendations for web updates and improvements. This includes search engine optimization, AODA, and web analytics tools
- Stays current on web trends and technology and recommends enhancements that improve usability, performance, accessibility and engagement
- Serves as the primary technical and website day-to-day service provider and first point of contact to all internal business partners inquires and requests. Responds to requests, assists with problems. Provides troubleshooting and technical support to content authors on A timely basis. Provides ongoing technical guidance and support for all new and existing content providers from departments and service areas across the college, helping to build confidence, capability and consistency in web content management.
- Assists in development and delivery of CMS training sessions to content authors across the college, helping to build confidence, capability and consistency in web content management.
- Acting as administrator for CMS editor permissions which includes granting, modifying and removing access in accordance with governance, security and role-based requirements.
- Collaborates with MarCom team members to build CRM email templates and other elements as required.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Successfully completed a two-year diploma in Computer studies, web design and development, or user interface (UI) / digital media design or a related field.A minimum of three years’ experience in website design, development and maintenance working within a content management system, with plug-ins and API’s, and integrating with toolsExperience providing technical support and guidance to both technical and non-technical users / clients in a service oriented or client-facing environmentExperience in website design, development, and maintenance in a large organization where systems are integrated into the website is preferred.Demonstrated knowledge and experience using a variety of technology such as WordPress, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, PHP, as well as MS office, email applications and Adobe Creative Suite or other digital design tools.Project management experience related to the webExperience supporting and maintaining content management systems in a multi-author environment.Working knowledge of web accessibility standards (AODA), responsive design and SEO best practices.Experience using web analytics and performance tools to monitor site effectiveness
