Reporting to the Superintendent, the Fibre Optic Splicer will be responsible for performing activities related to connecting, testing and validating the integrity of new and existing outside plant telecommunication networks. Please note that this position is unionized, therefore it will be a requirement to join the union upon acceptance.
What You'll Do Here :
- Splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of infrastructure, Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) or customer builds
- Daily updates, documentation and reporting on work completed
- Completion of daily safety documentation with a focus on accuracy and potential hazards
- Inspecting fiber routes and hub sites as preventative maintenance
- Strong attention to quality and detail
- The ability to read and understand all types of drawings or documents to determine the fibre counts being used

What You Bring to the Team :
Fibre Optic splicing experienceIn depth knowledge of OTDR testing to prove high losses and open locations with accuracyPrevious experience with providing power meter results including documentationExperience using single fibre fusion sets, ribbon fibre splicing, live fibre identifiers, ribbonizing techniquesProficient in fibre cable termination with connectors a variety of connector typesExperience with all types of fibre closures such as PLP Armadillo, PLP Dome, PLP coyote Runts and Tyco 400 or 450 seriesThe understanding of patch panels, pigtails, patch cords and splice boxesPrevious hands on experience with connectorizng cables or pigtails using a Corning Unicam or Opti-Snap toolExperience with working in live fibre closuresKnowledge of work area protection and safe work practices, electrical safety awareness and fall protectionFamiliar with working in confined spaces or manholesSelf-motivated with good organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to problem solve and work independentlyAbility to communicate respectfully with employees, visitors, and customersAbility to prioritize tasks multiple tasks to ensure customer due dates are metBe a champion of inclusion and diversityThe expected hourly wage for this position is $22-$38 / hr as per the current Collective Agreement. Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience and unique skills.
