JOB OVERVIEW : Information Security Manager

This role reports to the Director Information Security. Reporting directly to this position are Senior Information Security Analysts, Information Security Analyst and Junior Information Security Analyst

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Manager Information Security is responsible for managing the daily operations supporting the KPU Information Security program.

The role involves translating the IT-risk requirements and constraints of the business into technical control requirements and specifications, as well as developing metrics for ongoing performance measurement and reporting.

The Information Security Manager coordinates the technical activities to implement and manage security infrastructure, and to provide regular status and service-level reports to the Director Information Security.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor degree in information technology or equivalent work experience; Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)information security is preferred.
  • 5-7 years of IT experience, with five years in an information security role and at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

COMPETENCIES

Demonstrated experience working with security tools, technologies, mechanisms and policy to support and protect business information infrastructure in a large organization.

An understanding of operating system internals and network protocols. Familiarity with the principles of cryptography and cryptanalysis.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of information risk concepts and principles as a means of relating business needs to security controls.

Excellent understanding of and the ability to stay current with information security concepts, protocols, industry best practices and strategies.

Proficiency in performing risk, business impact, control and vulnerability assessments, and in defining treatment of strategies.

Experience in application technology security testing (white box, black box and code review) and in system technology security testing (vulnerability scanning and penetration testing).

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with the IT organization, project and application development teams, management and business personnel and other internal and external University stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership persuasion abilities and experience working with legal, audit and a variety of diverse business units.

Strong project management skills and experience in creating and managing complex project plans, including budgeting and resource allocation.

  • Knowledge and experience in developing and documenting security architecture and plans, including strategic, tactical and project plans.
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze security requirements and relate them to appropriate security controls.
  • Experience developing and maintaining policies, procedures, standards and guidelines using a consultative and inclusive approach.
  • Experience with common information security management frameworks.
  • Familiarity with applicable legal and regulatory requirements for post-secondary education in the Province of British Columbia.
  • Ability to travel between campuses is required.

Salary Information

The compensation range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary (as listed above) for a position. Approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position.

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and approximately halfway of the salary range for a job.

Annual salary increases are available through participation in the Administrative Performance Management program
