CLASSIFICATION : Classification VI per Schedule A of the collective agreement

DEPARTMENT : Indigenous Student Services Centre Turtle Island

HOURS OF WORK : Monday to Friday 8 : 30am 4 : 30pm

The University of Windsor is situated on the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations : the Ojibwa the Odawa and the Potawatomie. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Aboriginal Outreach and Retention Coordinator develops implements and coordinates various transition retention and outreach initiatives within the Aboriginal Education Centre Outreach Program. The position plays a key role in raising awareness about the University of Windsor in Indigenous communities in Windsor and Southwestern Ontario and by helping to raise awareness and support for Indigenous students and Indigenous-related issues within the University community.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

The successful candidate will have :

University degree or equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the Department

Strong knowledge of Indigenous / First Nations communities and related youth issues

Recent and demonstrated experience coordinating student-centered programs focused on transition retention and outreach specifically supporting Indigenous students in a post-secondary setting

Excellent communication skills both written and oral including the ability to employ appropriate culture norms and communication styles

Demonstrated ability to speak effectively to small and large groups both on and off campus

Strong leadership and team-building skills

Creativity enthusiasm and sense of vision

Organized and self-motivated

Applicants must be of Indigenous descent

Ability to travel within Canada

Ability to work a flexible schedule when required
