Reporting to the Manager, Technical & Marketing Services, the Technical Services Specialist is responsible for supporting the sales and marketing of Teck refined metal products.

In doing so, this candidate will provide technical expertise to the company's metal customers and the Metals Sales staff.

This outstanding candidate will communicate with Trail Operations personnel (Production, Quality, Analytical, etc.) regarding Teck product specifications and quality, review of customer's material specifications, new product opportunities, and technical developments or issues related to end-user applications for Trail products!

Additional responsibilities will include conducting or leading technical investigations, requiring external metallurgical service resources, to assist metal customers with product or process-related problems.

We are looking for an outstanding interpersonal individual who will collaborate closely with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds.

This role may further participate in customer-focused product end-user studies, and market development activities.

This is an 18-month term contract.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide technical and marketing services to Teck's metal customers
  • Investigate and respond to customer technical problems and inquiries
  • Participate on technical or marketing committees of various industry associations
  • Develop and maintain good relations with customers and with trade and industry associations
  • Monitor, gather and assess technical and environmental activities and developments in industries using metal marketed by Teck
  • Work with the Metal Sales team to improve returns by using technical and marketing resources
  • Liaise with Trail on customer requirements (quality, specifications, packaging) for resources and support services
  • Provide marketing support and help assess the impact of market / technological trends, customer needs and competitive factors on demand for Teck's products and services

Qualifications

  • 2-5years of relevant industrial experience
  • An Engineering degree (metallurgy and materials science preferred)
  • Relevant engineering background (metallurgical or chemical). Knowledge of materials and industrial applications required in the role as technical resource for customers and, Marketing & Sales staff
  • General knowledge of refined metal business (galvanizing, die-casting, battery systems and / or specialty metal end uses) and how customers' processes use company services and products
  • A strong attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly
  • Outstanding communication skills and flair to build and nurture positive relationships to build alliances and networks
  • Able to work interdependently with internal and external parties
  • Efficient working within a team environment where members understand individual roles and work to create opportunities and build upon each other's strengths
  • Able to travel, up to 25% of the time, as required
  • Registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is an asset

Salary Range : $103,000 - $127,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
