Position summary
The Unit Secretary is a valuable member of the Intensive Care Unit and has a significant impact on the efficient and effective operation of the patient care unit.

Schedule
The successful candidate must be able to work days shifts (0730-1930 and 0800-2000). Please note schedules may change based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

Administration
Receiving patients, visitors and / or hospital staff on the patient care unit. Responding to and referring telephone calls to appropriate personnel.
Booking patient appointments and providing information related to patient care as authorized by the Director or her delegate.
Recording, organizing, inputting and filing of physician orders in the computer. Ordering of supplies. Participating in special projects as requested.

Qualifications
Previous unit secretary / medical clerical experience required with preference to experience in a medical setting. ICU experience preferred.
Recent Medical Office Administration Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution required. Sound knowledge of medical terminology.
Proficient computer and typing skills. Experience with Meditech is preferred. Must have familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word and Excel.
