About the Role
The Music Therapist is anindependent contractor position that reports to the General Manager and workswith the recreation team. This role designs and participates in programs tohelp all persons served improve their mental and physical health through thecreative use of music.
Responsibilities
Include but not limited to;
- Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
- Meet with residents and care staff to create amusic therapy program based on the resident’s physical and psychological needs,interests and skill level.
- Directs and participates in instrumental, vocaland listening music activities.
- Instructs residents, either individually or ingroups, on the use of instruments and vocal techniques.
- Encourages participation and expression throughnon-verbal communication.
- During programs works with care staff to ensure that residents are engaged and gets feedback to make adjustments as needed.
- Review and assess therapy sessions to monitoreffectiveness and residents’ interest levels.
- Provides guidance and instruction to staff whohelp with execution of music therapy programs.
- Maintain accurate records and evaluate client’soverall progress.
- Participate in the selection and purchase ofnecessary materials.
- Prepares updates to the Recreation Therapist ordesignate to discuss in care conferences.
- Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through : accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, the safe use of supplies andequipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and utilizing infection control procedures
- Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications & Skills :
Bachelor degree in Music Therapy and at least 1year experience preferably in a health care setting.Music Therapist-Board Certified.Comfortable working with seniors.Good physical and mental health to meet the demands of the position.Experience programming for Alzheimer Disease andrelated Dementia’s is an asset.All successful applicants must pass thevulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.Good interpersonal and organizational skills.Basic computer skills including Word, Publisher,and Outlook.West Coast Seniors Housing Management
