Role and Facility Information

Located in the charming lakeside desert community of Osoyoos, this lovely rural town of 5,000 people is currently served by 7 Family Physicians working in 2 clinics. The population increases substantially in summer when tourists come to enjoy the long, sunny days, sandy beaches, and wineries. In addition, a growing population of "Snow Birds" come to enjoy the mildest winter climate in Canada.

Our clinic is located in downtown Osoyoos. Our building is just a 2‑minute walk to the local beach and many eateries. The clinic is 45 minutes away from Penticton Regional Hospital, where patients will have access to excellent specialist services.

Our clinic is well‑staffed and has an Office Manager and 3 MOAs. Each physician will have one dedicated office space plus two exam rooms. The space is very spacious with recent renovations. Each room is well equipped and our overheads include EMR fees. We use Accuro. We are a designated Primary Care Network site and have a Psychiatric Nurse, Community Worker, and Registered Dietitian.

We have a great work atmosphere and collegiality, where hallway consults are quite common. We cover absences during holidays and other periods for each other and are very supportive. Mentoring is available for any new‑to‑practice physician and for those not familiar with our local healthcare system.

The right candidate will start their own practice at their own pace. They will have their own patient panel. There are plenty of available patients on the patient attachment list maintained by the Ministry. You will also be responsible for inpatients and long‑term care patients from your own practice. Opportunities for ER shifts (APP remuneration) at SOGH in Oliver and Doctor of the Day shifts that come with a reasonable stipend are available.

Remuneration : FFS / LFP. Range $250,000 to $500,000 depending on clinic hours and addition of ER shift.

Return of Service (ROS) Expectations

• Return of Service Family Physicians – a portion of your ROS FTE will support PCN and / or IH facilities and / or services. Please contact your Division and / or IH recruiter for more information on what PCN and / or Health Authority services are provided in this community and what your expected PCN and / or Health Authority deliverables will be.
• Family Physicians in this community are strongly encouraged to support IH services, including rural ER, LTC, OAT, Maternity, etc., as part of their community practice. For more information on what IH services are provided in this community, please contact your IH or Division recruiter.

Compensation

Compensation Type : Fee‑for‑Service

Estimated Remuneration : $350,000

Benefits and Incentives

Desert Doctors’ is a very supportive team of longitudinal family physicians, with many "hallway" consults and cross‑coverage for holidays and other pursuits. The clinic has been newly renovated and can accommodate any work schedule, with adequate space. Each doctor has their own office and two fully equipped exam rooms.
