We are looking for a Sustainability & Government Relations Manager to join our team in Mississauga, ON.

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability and Government Relations, you will be responsible for leading and implementing BASF Canada’s Government Relations and Sustainability strategies.
In this role, you will support the development and implementation of a collaborative, proactive government relations strategy.
This will include working with corporate functions and business units to map out BASF priorities, building relationships with government officials, leading the provision of input to relevant legislation, keeping track of upcoming legislation that will affect BASF, and conducting advocacy and lobbying as appropriate.
You will lead BASF Canada’s Indigenous Relations program as part of its Truth and Reconciliation journey.
BASF has made ambitious public sustainability commitments to achieve carbon neutrality, contribute to the circular economy, and provide sustainable solutions to customers.
You will support the achievement of these goals at BASF Canada, as well as supporting sustainability in the region.
As a Sustainability & Government Relations Manager, you create chemistry by...
- Developing and implementing sustainability and government relations strategies for BASF Canada, prioritizing goals and activities based on short, medium, and long-term objectives.
- Serving as the key contact and national champion for Indigenous Affairs and engagement, overseeing BASF Canada's journey towards Truth and Reconciliation, including our participation in the Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program at Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business and ensuring milestone certifications and cultural transformation are achieved.
- Actively engaging with national stakeholders including business associations (especially CIAC), government officials, and sustainability advocates to promote BASF's corporate messages, brand, and interests, and influence public policies in Canada.
- Collaborating with Business Units to understand customer perspectives on sustainability topics and regulatory affairs, and tailor external messaging to the business needs.
- Spearheading annual sustainability reporting and presentations for BASF Canada, aligning with global and regional teams.
- Positioning sustainability as a source of innovation and competitive advantage, integrating it into BASF's business strategy for internal and external stakeholders.
- Actively engaging in CIAC regarding political listing and engaging strategy with relevant officials on the federal and provincial level.
- Overseeing innovative projects (e.g., circular economy, carbon emissions reduction), leading relationships with key partners, and supporting communication efforts related to sustainability and government / indigenous relations.
If you have...
- Successfully completed a B.A. / B.Sc with a focus on Political Science and / or Sustainability; MBA preferred.
- 5 years’ work experience in related areas with a minimum of 2 years in Government Relations.
- A high level project management expertise from ideation to completion.
- Been comfortably delivering presentations to a variety of internal and external audiences and leading meetings.
- An Active professional social media presence.
- Experience conducting outreach / consultation in Indigenous communities an asset.
