Forester-Operations Specialist - Open Until Filled
Introduction
Forestry and Peatlands Branch within the department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade, and Natural Resources is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Forester - Operations Specialist (Located in Lac du Bonnet).

Conditions of Employment :
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent from another province.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime when required and work out-of-town for extended periods of up to ten days with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels and tents.
- Must be willing and able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via truck, all-terrain vehicle, boat, or rotary or fixed wing aircraft.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may require moderate physical effort (e.g. Carry equipment such as chainsaws and forestry samples for long distances potentially over rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions).
Qualifications : Essential :
- Post secondary education in Forestry. An equivalent combination of resource related education, training and experience in field forestry operations may be considered.
- Experience planning, performing, supervising and inspecting silvicultural activities.
- Experience planning, performing, supervising and inspecting timber harvest operations.
- Experience in human resource management including supervision, performance management and training.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with stakeholder groups and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
- Able to work independently with strong organizational skills to prioritize workloads and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including ArcGIS and / or ArcGIS Pro, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) with strong mapping skills.
- Working knowledge of Forestry legislation and policy.
- Strong written communication skills.
Desired :
- Experience preparing annual reports, operating plans, and forest management plans.
- Experience preparing and managing budgets.
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities.
Duties : This position supports the Regional Forester in the development, implementation and evaluation of forest management plans, resource allocations, forest renewal activities, Forest Management and Operations Plans, work program administration and supervision within the Eastern Region.
The candidate will participate and cooperate with other Eastern Region Department and Branch staff and programs.
