Job Description

Be the Spark that ignites the potential in people! At our YMCA, we believe in the power of people. Every day, our dedicated employees and volunteers bring energy, positivity, and inclusivity to everything they do. They are the spark that ignites potential in others—helping individuals grow, thrive, and truly belong.

When people feel connected and supported, communities become stronger, more resilient, and full of life. That’s the impact of people-powered change. Together, we create welcoming spaces where everyone is valued, differences are celebrated, and possibilities are endless. Be the spark. Shine bright. Help others shine too.

About the Role :

Reporting directly to the Local Manager, and to the National Manager for programmatic oversight, the Regional Coordinator develops and implements outreach strategies to achieve program targets, maintains relationships with community stakeholders, and ensures compliance with program agreements and reporting requirements. The role also involves resolving challenges, supporting group leaders, and providing guidance to ensure a smooth and positive exchange experience. This position requires the ability to work independently and build and maintain effective relationships.

Responsibilities :

  • Develop and implement a regional promotion and communication plan to achieve provincial youth recruitment targets representative of the demographics of Canada.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with schools, school boards, community groups, local YMCAs, and other partners through proactive networking and face-to-face engagement.
  • Comply with all terms of the government contribution agreement and contracts, including provincial targets, regional expenditure of funds, and financial and statistical reporting.
  • Follow financial systems and maintain financial reports in line with YMCA policies and procedures, including submitting invoices, expense forms, and statistics to both the local and national offices in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Train, orient, and coach group leaders, focusing on risk management, and provide ongoing guidance and encouragement throughout the exchange cycle.
  • Provide timely support to groups experiencing challenges, including problem-solving and conflict resolution, and conduct debrief sessions following each exchange.
  • Travel within the assigned region and occasionally outside of it as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed :

  • Commitment to the YMCA’s Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
  • YMCA Competencies : Accountable, Relationship-Builder, Improvement-Oriented, Team Player & Leader, Equity and Wellbeing Promoter.
  • Qualifications :

  • Post secondary education in Youth Work, Education, Social Work or Services, Community Development, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of experience in program delivery and team leadership / staff management.
  • Experience in community outreach, partnership development, or program coordination.
  • Experience working with budgets.
  • Knowledge and experience with facilitation, training, and / or experiential learning.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and cloud-based technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with group leaders and community members.
  • Flexibility to travel within the region and occasionally outside of it.
  • Excellent understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design.
  • Why work for the YMCA?

The YMCA of Northern Alberta is a charity that ignites the potential in people, helping them grow, lead, and give back to their communities. We are committed to helping our employees and volunteers reach their full potential and are recognized as a great place to work and volunteer. We offer meaningful opportunities to make a difference in the lives of individuals and the health of our communities.

Joining the Y means contributing to over 100 years of providing opportunities for people to shine! Our Y serves tens of thousands of people each year through programs and services like health and fitness, licensed child care, day camps, mental health, employment and immigrant services, education and training, and services for youth, families and seniors.

Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion : Inclusion has power, and we take strides to create a diverse, inclusive workplace where everyone can belong. Diverse teams unleash new ideas, and employees thrive in a culture that recognizes and appreciates the unique perspectives and backgrounds of others. Through our differences in how we think and act we can form innovative and effective teams and deliver organizational success.

If we can make the recruitment process more accessible for you, please let us know when we reach out about an opportunity so we can work with you to accommodate your needs.

In keeping with our commitment to safety and child protection, job offers are contingent on the successful completion of a Police Records Check. Prior to your first day and every three years thereafter, a Vulnerable Police Records Check is required.

The YMCA only considers applicants who are legally entitled to work in Canada. We thank all applicants for their interest, however, due to the volume of applications we receive, we can only contact candidates who are selected for an interview.
