Higher Ground Consulting (HGC), a division of Englobe, is dedicated to providing practical solutions in project management, environment, engineering, and design. We are seeking an intermediate level Hydrotechnical Engineer to lead the development and execution of hydrotechnical engineering services to support HGC’s ongoing projects and clients.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will perform hydrotechnical engineering analysis and design for civil heavy earthworks projects including water storage dams, river intakes, earthen containment ponds, pipelines, and industrial surface water management infrastructure. The role requires independent work in a fast‑paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Project management, including project initiation, coordination, and execution
- Assist in water resources business development
- Mentor and manage intermediate and junior water resources engineers
- Formulate design and detailed calculations, prepare reports, specifications, and construction cost estimates
- Delegate design, calculations, reporting, and other activities to junior staff and review their work
- Hydrotechnical design and analysis including hydrologic modeling, hydraulics design and modeling, erosion and sediment control, flood analysis and mitigation design, and river engineering
- Coordinate with civil, environmental, and design teams to integrate hydrological and hydrotechnical considerations
- Develop and / or review dam break inundation models
- Complete watershed delineation, runoff modeling, and water balance evaluations
- Prepare flood frequency analysis, design storm analysis, peak discharge calculations, and wind / wave calculations per federal design standards
- Site inspection and supervision
Qualifications
Hydrotechnical, Water Resources or Civil engineering degreeRegistered as, or able to immediately register as, a P.Eng. in AlbertaProficiency with hydraulic analysis software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, QGISExcellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skillsWillingness to travel and work in the field as requiredValid driver’s license and legal entitlement to work in CanadaPreferred (Optional)
Experience with design, operation, and inspection of earthen damsCFD modeling experienceInvolvement with the Canadian Dam Association and familiarity with its guidelinesExperience in large civil earthworks, hydraulic design, municipal sewer design, open-pit mine surface water management, and environmental sciencesBenefits
