Location : The role is in‑person and is based primarily at North Campus, Edmonton.
The University of Alberta’s Animal Care and Use Program, under the direction of the University Veterinarian in the Vice President Research and Integrity (VPRI) office, supports the animal‑based research and teaching community. The program provides veterinary services, research integrity support, and animal facilities management.
North Campus Animal Services (NCAS) consists of three consolidated animal facilities : the Health Sciences Facility, the Biosciences Facility, and services to alternate animal housing sites. NCAS supports over 150 principal investigator groups and 22 researchers managing over 62 aquatic protocols with species such as xenopus, zebrafish, trout, goldfish, carp, cichlids, minnows, and Atlantic salmon. Facilities include a flow‑through life support system and standing‑recirculating racks housing more than 70,000 aquatic animals.
The Aquatics Technical Specialist will maintain aquatic life support systems in accordance with national and provincial requirements. Under the direction of the Team Lead–Logistics and Facility Monitoring (TL‑LFM), the specialist provides technical activities to support the operation of aquatic life support systems and ensures consistency of animal care, welfare, and reproducible research.

The VPR team supports and advances the university's extensive research enterprise, providing leadership, guidance, and diverse research services.
