About the Opportunity

Youth Engagement Coordinators are members of Public Health’s Healthy Communities team. Their role is to work with youth, adults, schools, youth-serving organizations, broader communities, and systems to strengthen skills, instincts, abilities, processes, and resources to support children and youth as change agents. They will empower communities and schools to meaningfully improve their health. Healthy Communities’ Youth Engagement Coordinators are initiators, innovators, and connectors.

Youth Engagement Coordinators support youth engagement in Health Promoting Schools (HPS) partnerships with Regional Centres for Education. This extends out to the communities they serve. Youth Engagement Coordinators work closely with School Health Promoters, regional HPS teams, and many other partners to support schools and communities to implement school-based, as well as community-based, HPS and youth wellbeing action plans.

These positions require a strong background in youth engagement, health promotion, understanding of comprehensive school health, community development, knowledge of the school system and a solid track record in building partnerships.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following :

  • Baccalaureate degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Education, Community Youth Development, or other relevant field with relevant experience.
  • Masters’ degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years related job experience.
  • Experience in working with youth including developing and implementing youth engagement, peer mentoring, and knowledge and skills building strategies.
  • Experience in planning, development, and evaluation of health promotion policies and programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of a population health and health promoting schools approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders using a variety of methods.
  • Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support HPS planning and work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting with a strong focus on school settings.
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to deal with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated judgment, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrated innovative systems thinking with an understanding of working with schools and communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community development and mobilization.

About You Continued

  • Demonstrated knowledge in organization and behavior change and social movement theory, theories of school change, critical analysis, strategic framing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Exceptional time management and priority setting skills.
  • Travel will be required for this community-based position- a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset

  • Permanent Full Time / % FTE / 70 Hours Bi-weekly
  • Compensation and Incentives

    35.09- $44.10 Hourly
