Responsibilities :
- Provide professional advice and direction in archaeological resource planning and management to operation and field staff.
- Review and provide professional advice on technical plans and studies provided by Archaeology Consultants.
- Provide input into processes, review, collects, and maintain data useful to assessing the risk of impacting an archaeological resource on city lands.
- Advise supervisor of evolving policy issues that require further attention and analysis and support work to update policies related to archaeology.
- Develop partnerships with First Nations to determine the nature of Indigenous rights and potential for infringements as it pertains to archaeological studies and / or site alterations.
- Conduct workshops and training on policies and procedures related to the work, including the development of change-find procedures.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology or Anthropology, with a specialization in archaeology
- Considerable post-graduate training and related experience in archaeological resource management related to infrastructure or public works projects are preferred.
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing archaeology in BC, knowledge of and experience working with Indigenous peoples, specifically the Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, and Kwikwetlem Frist Nations.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, methods, and procedures applicable to projects or initiatives that relate to infrastructure, archaeology, planning, and land used and / or resource management.
- Knowledge of provincial regulatory bodies, municipal staff, and other levels of government.
- Valid BC Driver’s license.
- Eligible for Professional Membership in the British Columbia Association of Professional Archaeologists.
