Description
The Supervisor of OHS Services & Governance is a key member of the OHS team responsible for managing the strategic development and oversight of the Countys occupational health and safety governance framework. This includes managing the OHS committee structure ensuring alignment with County policies and guidelines planning and leading the Certificate of Recognition (COR) audit process and oversight of the Countys Vehicle Safety Program. This position also supervises a team of OHS professionals who support various County departments.
Key Responsibilities :
- Advise and provide guidance to OHS staff on the effective implementation of the County OHS program to create standardization across departments and instill the principles of the internal responsibility system
- Develop implement and provide expert guidance on the OHS management system
- Design and oversee a comprehensive governance model that supports consistent OHS practices across all County departments
- Ensure compliance with municipal provincial and federal OHS legislation and County policies including monitoring changes in legislation and standards and assessing their impact on County operations
- Serve as a subject matter expert on regulatory compliance providing guidance to departments and leadership and interpret complex legislative and regulatory requirements into practical actionable standards
- Develop implement and maintain OHS committee structures and governance across departments establishing clear roles responsibilities and reporting structures for the committees and working groups
- Oversee the Countys Vehicle Safety Program to ensure compliance improve safety outcomes and evolve the program through continuous improvement
- Lead the planning coordination and execution of the COR audit including documentation stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead OHS regulatory response and collaborate with analytics and data teams to ensure accurate and timely data collection
- Monitor and report on OHS performance metrics related to governance and compliance
Qualificationsand Skills :
Post-secondary degree or diploma in OHS or a related field such as occupational hygiene or health sciences combined with a minimum of 7 years related experience is requiredProfessional certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) in good standing is requiredExperience with or certification within the Incident Command System is an assetPublic service sector or organization-wide health and safety experience is preferredDemonstrated working knowledge and awareness of the Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Act Regulation and Code WCB-Alberta legislation and processes COR program is requiredDemonstrated knowledge and understanding of OHS management systems and disability management programs is an assetExcellent communication skills including active listening paraphrasing and engaging diverse audiences; political acumen and technical writing skills are considered assetsProven time management abilities with the capacity to handle heavy workloads competing priorities and frequent interruptions whilemaintainingaccuracy and attention to detailExperience developing and implementing occupational health programs is requiredAdvanced research analysis and project management skills with strong analytical capabilities to interpret and manage complex information from multiple sourcesTechnical writing skills are an assetStrong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability tofacilitategroups influence without authority anddemonstrateeffective leadership behaviorsConditions of Employment :
