We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill a 2nd Class Power Engineer position within our Chemical Manufacturing Facility located in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada.

  • Provides coverage for Shift Engineer or Assistant Shift Engineer for vacations, illness, training or other absences as required(See Shift and Assistant Shift Engineers’ Job descriptions)
  • Coordinates maintenance for department equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance checks.
  • Diagnose problems and determine possible solutions on equipment.
  • Solve equipment problems for possible minor repairs.
  • Arrange for maintenance to repair equipment problems for more significant issues.
  • Provide advise and assist maintenance if possible.
  • Issues both QPA and DPA permits.
  • Maintains daily log sheets, operational data and charts for purposes of record keeping as legislated by the legislative requirements.
  • Ensures that all work performed is in accordance with plant Safety policies and procedures and Environmental standards,
  • Ensures that general housekeeping and minor maintenance is performed within the Utilities building. (Boilerhouse / Waste Water treatment areas)
  • Assists in developing, updating and proofing department procedures.
  • Performs extra testing, draw downs, adjustments and isolations as required.
  • Performs routine checks, inspections and maintenance. Examples change filter socks, cleaning R / O unit, inspecting filters.
  • Follows the procedures for the ISO 9001 Program to meet OCC’s quality policies of conducting business that exceed the expectations and needs of our customers in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

Qualifications

Education : Must possess a valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer’s License, knowledge of Operating Engineers Act, Boilers, Pressure Vessels and fuels.

Willing to accept a 3rd Class Power Engineer who is currently working towards receiving their 2nd Class Power Engineer certification.

Knowledge of all applicable TSSA regulations. Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Power Engineering Technology or related field of study or equivalent knowledge and experience.

Strong knowledge of power generation / transmission technology, water and waste water treatment including processes, procedures and related systems in a plant environment.

Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations. Knowledge of computers and ability to operate computer systems and software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power-point, Outlook, and to conduct research using the internet.

SAP knowledge / experience would be an asset. High level of problem solving / analytical skills, strong organizational and coordination skills.

Ability to work independently and within a team is required.

Experience : Related Utilities management experience in plant operations with a focus on power technology, systems, processes and project management.

Must have related experience and be familiar with plant operations, systems, processes, procedures and experience with TSSA regulations on several levels.

Proven experience with diagnostic, analytical and problem solving to resolve issues effectively. Related experience in preparing reports and maintaining accurate records.

Interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.Ability to deal with tact, diplomacy and courtesy. In addition, must have previous experience with Health and Safety practices and procedures in a manufacturing environment, ideally a chemical processing facility.

Physical requirements Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including climbing ladders and stairs, walking, bending, stooping etc.

Must have good manual dexterity and experience using industrial hand tools and power tools. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.

Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms. Must be able to work in confined spaces, work at heights and work from platforms.
