Piikani Child and Family Services- Youth Worker
Piikani Child and Family Services is seeking a Youth Worker to work within the Prevention department. The Youth Worker position requires facilitation of programs to groups and training and support to youth and Families.
This position will empower youth by delivering Piikani teachings to support youth, and instill pride and belonging by exposure to Piikani values.
The Youth Worker will serve as a positive role model to youth, providing mentorship, direct and brief support to assist youth.
The Youth Worker will invest their time to help youth in their journey and support their physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental well-being.
The Youth Worker will have the opportunity to form supportive, long-lasting relationships with our children / youth that facilitate the Blackfoot Culture, language and the Piikani way of life.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
This is a full-time, one-year contract position with the possibility of an extension based on performance evaluation and funding availability.
Hours of work will be 8am-4pm Monday through Friday. Some evenings and weekends may be required. This job will work mainly from our Brocket office, some travelling will be required.
The annual salary of this position will be $48,000-$58,600 depending on education and experience levels. A benefits package will be provided after a successful probation period of 90 days.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Develop Blackfoot culture connection and awareness programs.
- Assist in empowering youth to achieve their life goals.
- Develop youth programs / groups geared to help youth reach their maximum potential through the promotion of healthy relationships, healthy living, self-esteem building, self-care, healing from grief and loss, and other issues facing youth today.
- Develop programs that will directly connect Youth and Elders
- Develop and support LGBTQ2S+ youth programs.
- Transport youth to and from necessary appointments..
- Prepare a work plan and monthly reports.
- Update client files and notes following client engagement.
- Develop and execute wellness plans with specific goals of activity that will support the youth’s needs as identified.
- Participate and transport youth to community events that provide connection for youth in the Piikani community.
- Coordinate, schedule and attend case conferences and appointments with community providers with whom the client is involved.
- Maintain regular contact with the client's network of service providers.
- Build and maintain positive rapport with our youth, community, schools and other agencies / resources.
- Advocate on behalf of youth for services and supports in Piikani and surrounding communities
- Develop youth groups designed to empower youth to have a voice in the Piikani and surrounding communities.
- Perform Prevention staff duties according to PCFS policies and procedures, in a highly confidential and professional manner
- Provide one-on-one support and mentorship with a strengths-based approach
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS :
- Social Work Diploma or equivalent (Human Services Diploma / Certificate) other education and experience will be considered.
- Blackfoot language and culture knowledge is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience working in the Human Services field.
- Strong networking and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of resources in the Parenting programs is considered an asset
- Current CPR, Infant CPR, and First Aid Certification.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Evenings and weekend availability.
- Clean Criminal and Child Intervention records check.
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Valid Driver’s License (preferably Class 4) and Driver’s abstract.
