Research Facilitator, College of Dentistry
Primary Purpose : The Research Facilitator provides strategic and operational support to the research enterprise of the College of Dentistry (COD) to increase the number of research proposals developed by faculty and the funding success rate.
Nature of Work : Reporting to the Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies, the Research Facilitator will work as part of a team to establish procedures, develop work plans and carry out strategies to promote and enable research in the College.
The Research Facilitator will also act as an interface between the Principal Investigators and the OVPR administrative team that supports the College. Working independently with minimal supervision and in integrated teams to ensure harmonization of COD activities with the University and Health Sciences Strategic Research Plans. Flexibility and highly developed organizational and prioritization skills are required in order to meet tight and conflicting deadlines. Work outside of normal business hours may be necessary.
Accountabilities :
Research Development & Collaboration
- Work with the Associate Dean, Research COD to support the development of comprehensive research strategies.
- Maintain a detailed working knowledge of the Tri-Agency, local, national and international funding environment.
- Build relationships (, supporting, coaching, and mentoring relationships) with college faculty.
- Support a system of faculty mentorship in development of fundable research proposals.
- Assist faculty in identifying suitable funding calls for research applications and proposals.
- Provide comprehensive grant editing and writing assistance (proposals and all grant components) to all faculty, with focus on building capacity in grant writing and preparation for new and junior faculty.
- Faculty administrative grant support : CCV, UnivRS, internal routing, and coordination of grant and manuscript application documentation.
- Provide review and editing of manuscripts.
- Provide support for overall research program development for new and junior faculty.
- Identify and promote post-doctoral fellowships and graduate student scholarship opportunities within COD.
- Facilitate relationship building between faculty and diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders to advance research goals.
- Support the success of large strategic funding opportunities.
Research Documentation, Metrics & Reporting
Support tracking and maintenance of meaningful comprehensive metrics for the College.Centralized research metrics leadership : structured collection, organization, and maintenance of College research data (grants, publications, trainees, outputs).Preparation of leadership materials : dashboards, reports, and presentations to support decision-making.Provide monthly research update reports for meetings and newsletters.Research Promotion & Marketing
Contribute to a professional, positive work environment that supports and promotes the College research goals.Coordination of the College of Dentistry Research Day.Organization of a Research Seminar Series.Support for the IADR / CADR College reception and related scholarly engagement activities.Communicate College research impacts to ensure research program visibility with stakeholders.Qualifications
Education
A graduate degree (MSc, MPH, MHA, MBA, MPP, PhD) is required. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
A minimum of two years of experience working in a University research environment, with responsibility and / or involvement in the following :
Research program developmentStrategic planning, change management and program implementationManaging relationships with regional, national and international funding agenciesResearch and ethics proposal development and reviewScientific writingEstablishing effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders, particularly those from Indigenous communities, would be an assetDetailed knowledge of research policies and processes at the University of Saskatchewan would be considered an assetSkills
