Your Opportunity :

Reporting to the Associate Manager and the Provincial Notifiable Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Program, the Registered Nurse contributes to improving the overall health of the public by providing STI related services.

This position is responsible for but not limited to the following : Health assessment, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of STI / HIV.

Monitoring and interpretation of Lab results. Client counseling and education in the prevention of STI / HIV. Fostering appropriate linkages to health care resources in collaboration with the client.

Contact tracing / partner notification. Establishing and maintaining relationships to promote common understanding of the Provincial .

Notifiable STI program related to testing, treatment, public health reporting, partner follow-up and drug replacement. Outreach activities in the community.

Participating with the STI program and other PNN in education initiatives, the planning, integration, implementation and evaluation of clinical practice and strategies to reduce STI and HIV in Alberta.

The nurse functions in an expanded scope of nursing practice that undertakes investigation and follow-up of notifiable STI cases and contacts.

This includes responding to STI and HIV investigations according to the Practice Support Documents and the Test and Treat Guidelines under the direction of the provincial STI Medical Director.

The nurse will link to community physicians, outreach facilities / programs, First Nations communities, correctional facilities and other stakeholders within the community to promote testing and treatment for STI.

Understanding the community will be essential in targeting areas or populations at increased risk for STI.

Description :

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.

You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE : Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.

87 / hour $43.82 / hour.

Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS / UNA Article 25.

02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications :

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required : CRNA Medication Management Chapters 1 4 (https : / / connect.

Additional Required Qualifications :

Minimum three (3) years within the past five (5) years of public health experience. Experience with Contact Tracing / Partner Notification.

A vehicle and valid driver’s license. Strong communication skills and demonstrated knowledge of population health. Experience working with priority populations.

Experience with First Nations Inuit Health (FNIH), Indigenous and rural communities, outreach work and harm reduction. In addition to a competitive rate of pay and excellent benefits, AHS currently offers : Northern Allowance (annual maximum of $6,300).

This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Retention Payment (annual maximum of $2,500) for Regular Full-time employment.

This payment is non-pensionable and is pro-rated for Regular Part-time employment. Additional incentives such as temporary housing (up to 3 months) and relocation assistance, based on eligibility and availability.

Opportunities for career development / growth, including an additional five days of paid leave for purposes of professional development for Regular employees employed in excess of one year, and pro-rated days for new hires based on number of months employed in a calendar year.

Preferred Qualifications :

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Minimum two (2) years within the past four (4) years’ experience in an STI Clinic or Sexual Health.

Experience in phlebotomy and collection of throat and rectal swabs. Experience documenting in CDOM / Connect Care and other electronic health records.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
