The Mechanical Test Engineer is responsible for planning, execution, monitoring and reporting mechanical and environmental qualification tests in accordance with customer requirements and recognized standards. This role also includes management of test projects and schedules, coordinating resources and customer communications to ensure that tests are performed safely, on-time and within scope while maintaining compliance with ISO 17025 quality systems, supporting customers in defense, aerospace, marine and industrial sectors.
Accountabilities
- Design and validate mechanical test fixtures, custom assemblies, set-ups and instrumentation plans for environmental testing, including vibration, thermal cycling, shock and pressure tests.
- Perform and / or supervise tests, inspections and calibrations in compliance with relevant standards (e.g., MIL-STD, DO-160, ISO).
- Maintain all records, data and files related to all environmental tests.
- Plan and conduct mechanical & environmental tests including vibration (sine, random and shock response), mechanical shock, thermal testing & humidity, corrosive environment, blowing sand & dust, ingress protection, and fatigue / tensile testing.
- Configure test profiles and control systems for shakers, chambers and shock machines.
- Support the Lab’s Equipment Maintenance Schedule.
- Perform other related duties and staff functions as required by the company.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.Minimum of 2-5 years of mechanical engineering experience with at least two years of product testing.Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks).Strong understanding of dynamics, vibration, shock and thermal effects on components and systems.Experience with test standards such as MIL-STD 810, MIL-STD 461, RTCA DO-160 & ASTM.Excellent communication and technical writing skills.Personal Attributes
Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline.Analytical mindset with sound engineering judgement.Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.Occasional lifting of test articles and fixturing.May require off-hours or extended testing support during long duration tests.ESL Labs is a controlled goods program environment.
