BASIC FUNCTION :

Provide staff support for office and perform clean-up of pool and locker room areas., provide for the safety of spectators, participants, and staff involved in aquatic activities.

May present aquatic instructional programs.

TYPICAL DUTIES :

1. Monitor and enforce safety rules and activities in swimming area.

2. Register students and perform aquatic instruction at basic / entry levels of swimming programs and other special conditioning activities.

3. Provide office support including cash handling activities, make change and operate a credit card machine

4. Perform lifesaving and first aid procedures as appropriate for the situation.

5. Provide routine clean-up, sanitizing, and general maintenance in pool and locker room areas.

6. Complete daily attendance and revenue reports as instructed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

1. Sixteen years of age at time of employment.

2. Upon hire, must possess and maintain certification in, Standard First Aid, Lifeguarding / Water Park Training, and CPR-PR as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent).

COPIES OF CERTIFICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION AND ORIGINALS PROVIDED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW).

3. Must obtain within 180 days of hire and maintain afterwards Water Safety Instructor Certification.

4. Must be able and willing to work nights and weekends.

5. All qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate all lifesaving and first aid skills required by the position.

6. Basic computer skills, including word, excel and email functions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Applicant must have good communication skills with the ability to deal with the public in a pleasant, tactful, and courteous manner.

2. Ability to operate a point of sale computer system.

OTHER

1. This position requires a criminal background investigation and fingerprinting.

2. A PROFICIENCY TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY :

Does not supervise; performs mostly routine duties with a few minor problems that must be resolved with supervisors assistance;

the consequences of error, carelessness, or mistaken judgment require minimal effort to recover.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

A recreation facility where conditions are pleasant; good, clean conditions with minor accident probability; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing or pulling (26-50 lbs.).

This position falls under the Borough’s Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
