Job DescriptionAquatic Instructor Ongoing

• Working as an Aquatic Instructor will give you the flexibility you need in your schedule and awesome work experience!
• Splashes, smiles and structure are your biggest issues as you make a direct impact on patrons visiting our facilities.
• Instruct aquatic lessons for children, youth and adults
• Maintain a safe leisure centre environment for customers and staff in and around the water
• Prepare lesson plans, evaluations, progress cards, routine reports, seasonal statistics and assessment sheets as required
• Interact with staff and supervisors to keep current on new techniques
• Participate in all applicable in-service training
• Maintain instructional equipment used during lessons
• Perform other related duties as required## Qualifications :
• Completion of Grade 9 or higher and be a minimum of 15 years of age
• Possession of Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor / Examiner Award (SFL)
• Possession of Lifesaving Society Instructor / Examiner Award (LSI)
• Possession of Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross or Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard
• Possession of current Intermediate (Standard) First Aid from a Government approved first aid provider (Emergency First Aid is not acceptable)
• All awards must be kept current according to certifying organizations' standards

• Ability to speak another language
• Possession of Lifesaving Society Swim Abilities Instruction Award
• Participation in the Nîkânîw Indigenous Leadership Program
• Skills required for success :
• Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques employed in water safety and life-saving activities
• Ability to act quickly and calmly in urgent situations
• Ability to demonstrate excellent communication and instructional skills
• Ability to resolve conflict using diplomacy and problem-solving skills
• Commitment to improve results of swim lessons and assisting co-workers and supervisors with tasks whenever needed

• Conditions of Employment :
• Hire is dependent on Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
• Successful candidates must attend a mandatory swim evaluation
• Successful candidates must attend mandatory training sessions once the hiring process is complete.
