Position : Temporary Full-time Indigenous Graduation Coach, 35 hours per week Dates : Commencing August 26, 2024, and ending June27, 2025, with potential contract renewal based on funding availability andmutual agreement Location : G.
C. Huston Public School Hourly Rate : $28.44 - $33.27 + 4% vacation pay DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Support the studentsuccess of Indigenous students from Saugeen First Nations attending G.
C. HustonPublic School;· Work in partnership withBluewater District School Board’s Indigenous Advisor, central staff,administrators, and staff at G.
- C. Huston Public School to establish timelyinterventions to remove barriers to ensure the well-being, engagement, andlearning of Indigenous students;
- Use existing schoolstructures to advocate for the needs of each learner;· Engage with parents,guardians, families, and community stakeholders to build trust, relationships,and facilitate communication and dialogue;
- Develop collectiveknowledge of educators, provide cultural competency supports as needed, andadvocate leveraging Indigenous cultural knowledge to help transform schoolculture;
- Act as an advocate and arole model for students in pathways planning related to graduation andpost-secondary destinations;
- Connect students withtheir cultural identity and organize and facilitate student leadershipdevelopment;· Facilitate studentengagement in order to create trusting relationships between Indigenousstudents and their secondary or elementary school community;
- and,· Perform other duties asassigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE · Grade 12 OntarioSecondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent;
- Indigenous Education,counselling training program diploma, or Diploma in Native Education IndigenousStudies; and· Experience working withIndigenous students in a counselling or support role.
- ASSETS · Theability and willingness to provide recommendations in a timely manner,demonstrating good judgement, respect for organizational policies andprocedures in addition to Saugeen First Nation values and inherent rights;
- Genuineknowledge and understanding of the Seven Grandfather Teachings and thewillingness to learn;· Familiaritywith Saugeen First Nation history;
- Excellent written and oralcommunication;· Organized and able tomanage competing demands; and,· Experience mentoring orcoaching students.
