Your Opportunity:

Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) is seeking a visionary healthcare leader to help shape the future of care across Alberta. Reporting to the Senior Provincial Director, Program Excellence, the Senior Director, Home and Community Care, Access, Transition Services and Social Work provides provincial leadership and accountability for the strategic direction, governance, performance, and continuous evolution of these critical services. As a trusted advisor to senior leadership and system partners, this influential role spans the full client journey, from access, assessment, and service authorization to home and community care delivery, transitions between care settings, and social work programming. The Senior Director establishes the provincial vision, policies, standards, service models, and performance expectations that ensure services are integrated, person-centred, equitable, and sustainable. Leading both provincially delivered and contracted services, the Senior Director drives strategies that strengthen care continuity, improve client and family experiences, advance quality and performance, and support the evolving needs of Albertans. This is a rare opportunity to influence provincial healthcare strategy, lead meaningful change, and leave a lasting legacy for Albertans, their families, and communities. If you are inspired by purpose-driven leadership and large-scale impact, join us and help shape the future of continuing care in Alberta. This position may be hybrid and located anywhere in Alberta.

Description:

The Senior Director, Home and Community Care, Access and Transition Programming is accountable for identifying and addressing systemic variation, access barriers, service-delivery risks and emerging pressures affecting clients, providers and the broader health system. The position establishes provincial implementation requirements, monitors program outcomes and directs corrective action, program improvement or escalation where performance, quality, access or sustainability does not meet established expectations. The role operates in a complex, multi-agency environment requiring alignment across ALA Operations, contracted providers, Acute Care Alberta, Primary Care Alberta, Recovery Alberta, government, municipalities, community organizations and other health and social-service partners. Decisions and recommendations made by the Senior Director have provincial implications for client access, patient flow, quality and safety, workforce requirements, service capacity, resource allocation and organizational reputation. As a member of the Planning, Performance and Quality (PPQ) leadership team, the Senior Director is a trusted advisor to senior and executive leadership on access, service delivery, patient flow, care transitions, workforce, quality, risk, sustainability and emerging system pressures. The role leads complex provincial transformation, represents ALA with government and health-system partners, and directs a multidisciplinary provincial team responsible for program leadership and implementation support. Job Title is under review and may be subject to change.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience in, or substantial knowledge of home and community care, access and navigation, care transitions, social work or closely related health-system functions, with demonstrated ability to integrate services across organizational and care-setting boundaries. Demonstrated experience advising executives and government; leading complex transformation; developing policy, standards and program frameworks; and translating strategy into consistent operational implementation. Strong political acumen, judgment and decision-making capability, with experience managing sensitive issues and balancing client outcomes, quality, access, workforce, financial sustainability and organizational risk. Exceptional communication, negotiation, facilitation and relationship-management skills, including the ability to build alignment among government, health agencies, operational leaders, clinicians, contracted providers, community partners, clients and families. Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams, developing leaders, managing change and delivering measurable results in a geographically dispersed environment. Ability to use data, evidence, quality findings and stakeholder experience to assess performance, identify system-level issues and make defensible recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Executive leadership experience within Alberta's continuing care health system, and working with contracted service providers, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. Experience leading cross-agency initiatives involving acute care, primary care, community services and government partners.
