About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Technical Specialist to join our dynamic Supply Chain Operations West team in BC-Vancouver-Oak St.
The Supply Chain Operations West team supports the safe and effective distribution, inventory management and production of blood components and products to ensure hospitals receive the products they need when they need them.
In this role, you will provide technical expertise and support to Distribution and Production staff and external customers. You will help resolve complex hospital requests, support inventory optimization, investigate quality issues, and contribute to continuous improvement activities that support Canadian Blood Services' mission and quality objectives. Your strong communication skills, technical expertise and customer-focused approach will help ensure exceptional service delivery and positive relationships with hospital partners.
Formula for success
- Leveraging your expertise in transfusion medicine and blood product utilization, you will provide technical guidance to staff and customers regarding complex blood component and product requests
- Drawing on your inventory management knowledge, you will help maximize the effective use of blood product inventory while ensuring hospital requirements are met.
- Utilizing your strong problem-solving skills, you will investigate deviations, non-conformances and errors, conduct root cause analyses, and support corrective and preventive action activities.
- Applying your attention to detail, you will review specialized production, inventory, return and irradiation documentation to support quality and compliance requirements.
- Using your excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will build and maintain positive relationships with hospital representatives and provide timely responses to customer concerns and complaints.
- Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in a multidisciplinary and rapidly changing environment.
Desired education and skills
- Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution, preferably with a specialization in Transfusion Medicine or Immunohaematology.
- Registration as a Medical Laboratory Technologist with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC) .
- Registration with the appropriate provincial licensing body for Medical Laboratory Technologists.
- Minimum five years of relevant laboratory experience in transfusion medicine, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current transfusion medicine practices, trends and blood product utilization.
- Excellent communication, leadership, coaching, interpersonal and analytical skills, combined with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
