Job description

Build the foundation of an exceptional marketing career

Yoke is looking for an early-career marketer who writes unusually well, learns quickly, and likes making things.

You do not need a conventional marketing background or a polished resume. You may be a student, recent graduate, career switcher, or self-taught builder. We care much more about how you think, what you have made, and how quickly you improve than where you studied or which titles you have held.

This is an apprenticeship with real ownership. You will work on real customer and growth problems, receive direct feedback, and take on more responsibility as your judgment develops. Our goal is to help you build the foundation of an exceptional marketing career while giving you meaningful work from the beginning.

About Yoke

Yoke helps founders and revenue teams turn prospect signals into coordinated outreach, with guidance on what to do next and how to judge the result.

Our mission is to turn good work into lasting businesses. Our vision is a world where good work finds the people who value it.

What you will do

  • Learn how our customers think, work, buy, and communicate.
  • Turn customer understanding into clear messages, useful content, and focused campaigns.
  • Take ideas from rough brief to finished work across different formats and channels.
  • Help test messages and creative ideas, then improve them from feedback and evidence.
  • Use AI and other tools to move faster and attempt more ambitious work without outsourcing your judgment.
  • Build simple systems, templates, and processes that make the next piece of work better.
  • Take increasing ownership as your skills and judgment grow.

What matters most

You write exceptionally well

Writing is the foundation of this role. You can form a clear idea, structure it, adapt it to an audience, and express it without wasting words. You care about the difference between technically correct writing and writing that is specific, alive, and worth reading.

You have made things

You can show us at least two substantive things you helped create and explain exactly what you contributed. They might be articles, campaigns, websites, videos, social accounts, designs, GitHub projects, music, business cases, community projects, or something we have not thought of.

Client work is welcome, but serious personal work counts.

You learn quickly

You teach yourself unfamiliar skills, respond well to direct feedback, and improve visibly. We are hiring for trajectory rather than years of experience.

You use AI with judgment

We expect AI to be part of your daily work. We also expect you to remain the author of the final result. You know that first-pass model output is rarely finished work, and you can explain what you kept, changed, rejected, and verified.

You take ownership without bringing ego

You move work forward without waiting for perfect instructions. You care about a high standard, tell the truth with warmth, and make the people around you better.

An eye for design, technical curiosity, and sales or customer-facing experience are useful but not required. Education is context, not a proxy for ability.

What to send us

  • Basic information about you and one or two sentences about why this opportunity interests you.
  • Links to two things you have made.
  • One sentence explaining your exact contribution to each.
  • The writing exercise below.

Writing exercise

Writing is the entrance requirement for this role. We want to see how you develop an idea and adapt it across different lengths—not whether you already know how to write about software.

Choose your subject

Choose something you understand from direct experience that most people misunderstand or overlook.

It may come from a job, class, hobby, craft, community, personal project, or area of curiosity. Pick something you genuinely know and care about. Do not choose a subject because it sounds impressive.

Use the same central idea for all three pieces:

1. A tweet: no more than 280 characters. Make an intelligent stranger curious about the idea.

2. A short explanation: no more than 100 words. Explain the idea clearly to a smart beginner.

3. A short argument: no more than 200 words. Explain what people misunderstand, why they misunderstand it, and why it matters. Ground the piece in at least one direct observation or experience.

Give the 200-word piece a title.

Using AI

We expect AI to be part of your day-to-day work at Yoke, and you may use it for this exercise. This is still a writing and judgment role. We want to see your thinking, taste, and decisions—not untouched first-pass output from a model.

Submit work you can fully stand behind and explain. At the end, add one or two sentences covering:

  • which tools you used, if any;
  • one important suggestion or output you changed or rejected, and why.

Time expectation

The entire application and writing exercise should take 15–30 minutes. A focused 15-minute submission can be strong. Thirty minutes should be enough to produce your best work. We are not looking for elaborate production, design, or outside research.

What we evaluate

  • Clarity of thought.
  • Selection and editorial judgment.
  • Adaptation to length and audience.
  • Structure and economy.
  • Voice, specificity, and taste.
  • Evidence that you remain the author of the work.

What to expect from the process

1. Application and writing review. Writing is a gate. Candidates must meet the writing bar to advance.

2. 30-minute live interview. We discuss the writing submission, one thing you have made, how you learn, and how you take ownership.

3. 45-minute final working session. You respond to a fictional marketing situation in which several reasonable people disagree about what the business should do next. The session may extend to 60 minutes so you have time to ask questions.

We will explain every stage in advance. We do not plan to ask for a large unpaid take-home project.

Employment details

  • Compensation and currency: $30 CAD per hour
  • Pay structure: Hourly
  • Full-time or part-time: Open to either part-time or full-time
  • Expected weekly hours: 20–40 hours per week
